Hi guys been a while. I got good news.
I got my first deer ever with a m/l. I don't get out as much as I should and never see much game due to lack of scouting but I connected on a stand I have been using for the past few years opening day. My old Encore finally got a chance to chuck lead down range and did a fantastic job.
What I thought when I shot was about a 100lb doe ended up being 132lb. Should be some great meat. The Hornaday XTP 265g FPSP performed beyond my expectations. |
That's great PBH. Congratulations.
Where did you hit her? How far was the shot? Did you get a pass through? What load of powder did you have under that XTP? DETAILS! WE WANT DETAILS. :sign0004: (You're already in the doghouse for not having pictures. :s1::s2: ) |
congratulations... what was the whole story?
Way to go!!! |
Congrats! :deer:

Congrats on that big doe.

Thank you guys I will give some more details tonight and try to post some pics. Right now I am finishing up work for the day and need to cook some dinner.
|
OK Paperwork is done and dinner is started. (Grilling some ribs, chicken and my daughter just brought over a steak because my wife called her to say I was grilling) So as the ribs start to par cook in the aluminum foil I'll start to tell the story.
First off posters that have been here for a while will remember I always touted the 265g XTP FPSP as a perfect round for something like an Encore because it was basically made for hunting with a .44mag rifle or long pistol. Not having a chronograph I rely on the mfg to be telling the truth on how the bullets are made and the powder co to give me a good estimate on speed. So before the shockwaves even came out I had switched to these flat points. Powerbelts were blowing apart back then at Encore speeds. So my load was the XTP a Harvester green sabot and 120g of FF 777 loose powder. The result was a complete pass through at the shoulders an almost instant death and a kill zone that looked like someone threw water balloons filled with blood at every tree 10ft around where I found her. |
Congrats!!!
