CVA Wolf

Thinking about getting the CVA wolf muzzleloader starter kit soon. Never owned a muzzleloader before. I have heard that it is a good starter gun for the price. People seem to get the best groups with 100 gr of 777 with 250gr slugs. How is the recoil with this load? Any other tips or advice for a new muzzleloader hunter? Thanks

A hunting buddy has a Wolf and really likes it, shoots very well and the price can't be beat. He shoots the not-so-popular American Pioneer (100g) behind a 245g hollow point powerbelt. Good luck!

I have one also. I hunted with last year for my first year hunting with a ML, and took a nice doe with it. Mine likes 80 grains of Triple Seven Loose powder, with either a 295 grain Hollow Point, or a 295 grain Aerowtip. You cant go wrong with this gun.

I have one and I love it. Doesn't like hot loads as the barrel is short soshooting 70-85 grains of T7 loose on a 250 Shockwave is good. I will be testing the BH209 on it this year at arounf 55 grains see what I get.

Thanks guys. How is the recoil with these loads?

My children bought me a wolf from Cabelas, for christmas a couple of years ago.
The recoil with 100 gr of pyrodex pellets in very managable.T7 is supposed to be alittle stronger.i can,t speak from personal experience. I have never used T7. As mentioned above, the barrel is very short.100gr of anything would be the max. I shot 150gr of
Pyro pellets in it one time.I won't do it again. It is a good gun to start with.Do yourself a favor and get rid of the ramrod that comes with it. Buy yourself a good wally world aftermarket ramrod. The supplied ramrod is junk.IMHO

Mine likes 80 grains and the recoil isn't bad, but hot loads in a light gun isn't preferred by me. : )

Ramrod: Yes, it's cheap, but I still use it thanks to how the gun is poorly designed for ramrod length. Not only do I have to extend the ramrod length by unscrewing the extender to gain 2", I also have to screw on a swiveled extender that adds another 3" to better swab the barrel.
