Off Topic - Hunting Knives
I'm looking to buy a new knife for hunting. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot, but I don't think it's necessary to spend $75+ on a knife. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what's good or what to avoid.
Thanks Vince |
I bought 3 new knives this summer because I had 2 stolen off my 4-wheeler at the end of last season...
Here is what I bought... 1) Buck Duke...It's a 3 inch drop point, folding knife...Made in the USA but they quit making it...I found it locally...Cost about $45.00 2) Made in USA Schrade...It's the PH-1...Sheath knife with a 3 1/2 inch drop point...I found it on the internet from here...It cost me $49.00 at the time... http://www.collectorknives.net/blowout.html 3) Bear, made in AL, bought from an ACE Hardware store...This one looks like a Scherade Sharp Finger...Cost was $24.95 One of the knives stolen was an Anza...They are made from files they sharpen easily and stay sharp enough to skin 3-4 deer...The one I had had a 3 inch clip point...Their website is here... http://www.anzaknives.com/ |
Buck Zipper Knife. Has the gut hook on it. Think my wife paid $60 for it. Used it on many deer. Not too hard to put a new edge on it either.

I've become a fan of Anza knives. They are often on Ebay and if you are patient, you can get some great deals. You need to keep them oiled since they are high carbon, not stainless, but the edge is crazy sharp, they're made in the US, and pretty much nothing else looks like them.

I just got a Cold Steel fixed blade Mini Pendelton hunter.
I like them because of the non slip handles and the blade is perfect for me. I am not a fan of a large knife for whitetail sized game. Here is a link,it's the one on the left. I have the middle one also for larger game like Hogs I paid $27.99 plus shipping $35 total. http://www.coldsteel.com/pehu.html http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/csstoreonline_2073_11802 |
I was kind of eyeing the Schrade Sharpfinger, but I didn't know if it was any good or not. I can get it locally for $18.
