thompson center GREYHAWK help ASAP!

how do yall like em.. another thing ive went to basspro/wally world etc... and cant find nipples for them.. is there a universal nipple that is made or do i need to order on online straight from thompson???? wat loads do yall shoot in em??? Thanks, Dustin W. |
The GrayHawk is an old technology rifle but a good one. All I have ever heard from owners is how good they shoot. If I remember, they had a 1-48 twist and used a #11 nipple. Any stainless steel hot shot type nipple with 1/4-28 threads should fit that rifle.
With that twist it should shoot most anything. I would start with 80 grains of Pyrodex RS and some .490 roundball in a pillow tick patch with a good lube. I would also try some maxiball, and even some 240 grain XTP sabots. I am just guessing here and going by the twist. Maybe a Grayhawk owner will pick up on this. Good luck with your new rifle. |
the greyhawk is basically a stainless new englander. 1/4-28 theads. you can use #11 nipples or the musket nipples in that thread size. i like the musket nipple better because musket caps are easier to pick up. i love the rws-caps but cci-s will do. patch round balls will do you good. thompson center maxi balls in 370 grain will shoot shoot well too if you really wanna anchor the deer. sabots are a toss up . you might get lucky. id start at 70 grains of pyrodex rs and work up to 80 grains if need be.

Yep. Any nipple for #11 caps with a 1/4 x 28 thread.
My brother-in-law's Grayhawk shoots great with 385 grain Hornady Great Plains conicals and Pyrodex RS. I think he's using 80 grains, but am not certain. |
