i was wondering if you guys could help me out i just bought a .45 caliber cva muzzleloader and was wondering what you guys have had good success with..sabots and powder and the grains of both

I had an Apex that preferred pyrodex P. It shot excellent with 70-80gr P with the 225 or 275gr powerbelt.

I shoot a CVA Hunterbolt .45 cal using 100gr of P-RS and XR 180gr hollowpoint sabots.

i have a winchester apex .45 that loves 2 pellets(100 grains) of triple 7 with a 200 gr shockwave

Hey Kentuckybucks, welcome to the .45 cal club!
My .45 CVA Hunterbolt likes these loads in order from most accurate to least accurate: #1. 200 grain SST w/supplied sabot, 95 grains Triple Seven FFFG #2. 200 grain XTP w/Harvestor light blue sabot, 95 grains Triple Seven FFFG #3. 195 grain Dead Center w/supplied sabot, 100 grains Triple Seven FFFG #4. 225 grain Powerbelt (hollowpoint), 70 grains Triple Seven FFG All of these will shoot 2.5" groups or better at 100 yards, with the SST's shooting close to 1" groups. I've only taken deer with the XTP's and SST, though- both of them worked fine, but I can't comment on the other bullet's performance, only their accuracy. Also, I never got anything close to acceptable accuracy using Triple Seven pellets - groups looked like a shotgun pattern. Switching to loose powder helped things considerably. |
