Got another one

Well I didn't get the spotted boar I was after. I decided to let one of my Marines go hunting with me and to increase his chances of success, I let him hunt my hog spot. I decided to try and get a buck but had no luck. He didn't have any luck either. But I did have this fella come out as we were getting ready to leave.

He was about 100 pounds and he bang-flopped. I took out both shoulders with my usual load out of my T/C Endeavor.

Are you donating any of the meat? I love taking meat to local families to help them out. Of course i feed my friends first. Congratulations on another fine harvest.

Nope. I would but there isn't a processor around here that does hogs and there isn't a high demand for wild hog meat. We have a couple of fellas that are authorized to shoot deer at night over on the Air Station. It helps to prevent deer-aircraft collisions by reducing their numbers. They take all the deer they kill to the processor and she donates it to homeless shelters. But she won't accept hogs. Hell, she won't even mount a hog.

I just give the meat to friends or take it to work and have a BBQ. We try to BBQ evey week. I always keep the tenderloins for myself though... :s2:

Yup. But I'm at the point now where I want to test a few other bullets.

Old/New 09-07-2009 05:40 AM

I thought in an earlier post you said you were gonna test other bullets. I guess you just love that Barnes too much. With the success you're having I don't blame you. Good luck!

Congrats on the nice hog.

You might want to check out a new bullet that I heard about then. It's called a Lehigh and there's a guy on the forum who can probably line you up.:happy0157:

sorry. I just couldn't resist:biggrin:

I already tested the 300g XTP and the 250g SW. The only bullets in my possession I haven't tested yet are the 275g PBE and the 350g FPB. I think I'll test one of them out next.

I have never had wild pig. Is it gamey? or does it taste like domestic hogs?

I'd be very interested to see the results from the 350g FPBs. I shot some over the weekend out of my 700ML and was printing 3/4 in groups all day. The accuracy is there, I'd just like to see how they work on actual game.

rafsob 09-09-2009 04:58 AM

Add me to that list. Been using the FPBs in my Knight Vision along with BH209. Been getting very nice results on paper. I will be using them in the woods in early November.

It all depends on how it's prepared. I like to let it soak in ice for a few days, draining the water and adding more ice periodically. That gets some of the gamey taste out of it. Others have other methods but this works for me.

SWThomas 09-09-2009 05:07 AM

Very well gentlemen. I'll use the FPB next time.

PAHUNTER105 09-09-2009 05:29 PM

Wac em and stack em!
