CVA Mountain Rifle
 

Bought a CVA Mountain Rifle online. barrel is stamped ,Made in :)U.S.A. certain things about the appearance make me think it is a kit rifle.But I thought all the kits were made in spain. The bore had a little surface rust,but,cleaned up nicely.It has a 32inch barrell,a very nice stock,a warped ramrod.looks like it sat in a wall rack for a long time sitting on the ramrod. It has a few thing to repair,minor.

Would appreciate any knowledge or comments that any one may have.Will try to post pix after labor day.

CVA Mountain Rifles were made in the early 1980s and were excellent rifles. They came with a nice maple stock brass fittings with hooked breach and two wedges in the forestock. They had a 1/66 twist and .008 rifleing. I believe they were available in 45 and 50 caliber. They were available in kit form as well as factory finished rifles. They also were available as a big bore version in 54 and 58 calibers. I have the 54 caliber. The big bore version did not come with the german silver cap box.

Mine is a .50. It does have the German Silver hardware.I plan on replacing all the screws with oval heads.all the screws that go into the stock look like wood screws.which i know they are ,but,not the kind used on firearms.It's possible that the stock is maple ,however, it has a really light colored finish.It reminds me of pecan with a light finish.
never owned a maple stock,so I'm not really sure.The sights are really hard to see.
Thin silver front blade.Rear sight sight has so shallow of a "V" that you can't hardly see it.

Those early CVA Mountain Rifles had Douglas barrels and were fantastic rifles. I cut my teeth on a .58 caliber CVA Mountain Rifle and that thing could just flat out shoot. Your really lucky to have one of the early Mountain Rifles. Most people that own them would rather be buried with them rather then part with them.

I really like it.The sights will be a problem till I do something about them.They are really small. The T/C Pa. Hunter sights are much better.

I agree, the PA Hunter sights are excellent. They are my favorite iron sight.
