BP Thread Cleaning
 

Ok, so over the years I've tried wire brushes, toothbrushes, Q-Tips, pipe cleaners and a couple other items lost in the ol memory to clean the breech plug threads. None of them seem to clean as well or as quickly as I would prefer. I spend more time on the threads than I do the rest of the gun combined.

What's your technique to cleaning the threads? What instrument and cleaning solution do you use?

Use Teflon tape don't get them dirty. Lee

Tried it. I've tried taping them several different ways. It works, but not 100% for me. I still have the first 3 or 4 threads that get fouled.

There is at least 5 different thicknesses of tape try a thicker one, they are different colors which identifies the thickness. I use pink [2 thousands] and white [4 thousands] myself. I have seen yell blue and brown I thick [I don't see all colors the same as other people, don't see some of them at all. Lee
P.S. Ask Sabotloader he knows all about the Teflon tapes and will help anybody who asks.

I just use a stiff bristle plastic brush to clean my plug threads. For the barrel threads i use a .54cal bore brush then use a bore mop to flush the gunk out.

Brake cleaner and safety glasses. That stuff burns your eyes trust me. It actually takes 10 seconds and your done. Then clean your barrel like normal. Just remember that stuff is getting the grease and oil out. make sure you oil the barrel when done. The Teflon tape is the way i would go with BH209. Not sure with 777 yet.

As for the tape, I've tried the pink and the white. White never worked for me, but the pink I could get to somewhat work. I kinda gave up on it because it was more frustrating to me than it was worth.

I'm shooting several guns tomorrow. I guess I'll try the tape again in one and try the brake cleaner in another.

The pink tape has worked GREAT with my encore breech plug and is always on the breech plug threads when its removed . If i use one drop of oil the plug goes in easier .The only place the tape is gone is the very front the the breech plug where the flame has burned it away and the treads on both the breech plug and in my barrel are spotless . I alway wrap TT Facing the back and do it CCW , going from back to front . At least thats the way i always wrap TT on pipes or breech plugs , if i go the other way it tend to come loose more often . IMO

I'll have to try that one drop of oil trick on my Evolution. I stopped using the tape in it because of how hard to was to get it out of the rifle. Im using tape right now in the Accura even though theres no blowback.

that is one of the reasons i use T7 PELLETS ..no loose powder ever on my breechplug threads when i unload at the end of the day..
