stupid question but better safe than sorry

My son and I both have CVA muzzleloaders, one is the optima and the other is a kodiak. I was shooting some the other day and noticed my scope need to be moved down, but the ramp of the rear sight wouldn't allow it to go any further. I took the ramp off and the screw hole doesn't go all the way through the barrell. Is it safe to leave the screw out of the hole? The screw hole on both guns don't go all the way through the barrell. I just didn't know and figured you guys would be on top of it.

Yes, you are fine to leave it out...

I agree you will be fine but you should go ahead and have plugs put in so that dirt and water does not sit in there and start rusting down in the hole.
Get them plugged so you don't have a problem later on.

You can usually find set screws at local gunsmith shops as well. I would take the rifle in to be sure of screw fit. In fact my local shooting range has an on site gunsmith and I have purchased set screws to fill holes from them.

You might want to consider loctite to hold that screw in place if you are not planning on removing that scope.
