Scope Protection

I put a scope on my Traditions Bolt action rifle and went out and shot it today. I was suprised how well it shot, (I'll try and get a pic up soon) but how do you prevent the grime from getting all over the bottom of the scope from the primer?? I was thinking of putting paper or something over the back of the breach plug after I load it, but that seems that it is going to be a pain in the rear. Is there anything out there to put over it, to protect the scope??

Thanks.

there are some people making home made flash covers of copper and there is a cover you can buy for your scope or you can home make a scope cover or you could get a Triumph that has no blowback.

I make a scope cover out of duct tape. You need to know the distance between the rings. Make strips of duct tape that wide. Then you need to make it long enough to go around the scope. Put a second layer of duct tape on top of the first layer, sticky side to sticky side. Then all you do is cut some holes that go over the scope caps... It will hold on there, wipe clean easy, and protect your scope.

I use to get the same thing with my Genesis. I wrapped a little electrical tape around the scope and just replaced it when I cleaned the rifle.

I gave up and just clean the gunk off the bottom of the scope when I clean the gun. Of course, the bottom of my scope now has no finish, but a dull aluminum colored spot about the size of a nickel. Maybe I should coat it with some black epoxy.

I went to Lowes and bought some of that clear plastic hose. Cut a slit in it placed it around the scopeand used wire ties to hold it in place. A smal flatened nail is the key to open the wire ties to remove the hose.

:D Al
