that's a good chart.
Also I wonder if areas they live makes a difference. When we shoot a deer up here in the winter they have an inch or two of just fat on them under the skin. That reduces the meat part of it. |
i like to have a good bit of the fat ground up with my chili meat and hamburger. 15% fat in ground venison is about right.
|
When i grind 100lbs of deer meat, I add 20lbs of the 73% hamburger meat with it. That comes out about like ground round.
|
Thanks Semi - I saw that years ago in the old PA Hunting Digest. I guess it only works on deer though cause if they took your heart girth you'd be off the chart...:)

we have always measured our deer and compared them to the scales at the tagging stations. its always w/ in a few pounds!
however, that chart is very vague. it makes a differance in where you live. now this formula is for field dressed weight only so combined w/ that chart i think it would be interesting. in the south, including texas you take the circumferencex 5.6, minus 94 to get field dressed weight. in the midwest its C x 7.7 minus 178 =dressed weight anywheres else, especially penn. is C x6.5 minus 120 = dresed weight the tape i carry reads like this 42" 145lbs 43" 153lbs 44" 160lbs 47" 184lbs 48" 192lbs ...... so on and so forth. my tape is for the the midwest. i have a tape made for the north east and its like i said, always within 4 or 5 lbs |
Does any one have a formula for wild hog weight?
