New Barrel for TC white Mountain carbine
Hello, I just purchase a new barrel for my TC white mountain carbine. It is a 21" Thompson center barrel, it has "50 cal penn hunter carbine written on it. It also says 1 in 66 twist. I know its for round ball. I have never shot round ball but am looking forward to trying it. My question is, What do I need ? what size pillow ticking ? what size/kind of roundballs do I need ? Can I use triple seven powder ? How much powder should I use?
I am new to the roundball game, but am willing to try somthing new. Thanks, Steve |

I am new to the roundball game, but am willing to try somthing new. Thanks, Steve Steve.. if its a cap lock you sure can shoot Triple Seven powder. Use a hot cap. If you get a lot of hangfires (and that is not uncommon) its the powder. Change over to black powder or Pyrodex RS. Use a .018 patch made of 100% cotton. I like cotton pillow tick. And my T/C rifles like a .490 ball. With that short barrel, there is no need to shoot more then 100 grains of powder. I would load 80-90 grains and see what happens. Good luck with your rifle. it should make a great stalking rifle. |
