Hunting w/ loose powder
Hey everyone. I am looking for a speed loader for loose powder (BH209)for hunting this year. Last yearI used the T/C 4-in-1 speedloader and I dumped more powder on the ground than I got in the barrel throwing off my load. Any of you use something easier to load? If I could only find a tube like the T/C U-View powder measure or something similar with a tapered end on it. Any of you have any suggestions?

RE: Hunting w/ loose powder
I use powder tubes like the one Lane sells. I just wrap my index finger around the top of the barrel and pour. I might spill a couple grains at most.

same here.. powder tubes from Lane. Also it helps to practice with them same tubes on the range so it becomes more second nature to you.

Ditto on LaneNebraska's powder tubes. Shoot him an e-mail.

RE: Hunting w/ loose powder
Hi All,
I have used for years enpty 300 Win Mag cases, they will hold 90 GV of Pyr. I use a 3/4 inch section of a bicycle iner tube like a bigg rubber bant over the length of the case. these are water tight with the iner tube over them and the 300 case has a built in funnel. Now that I hunt with a custome smokeless muzzle loader I have LaneNebraska" Vials. They are the best |

Yup...Lane

RE: Hunting w/ loose powder
Is the diameter of those tubes smaller than the T/C speedloaders? What is it about Lane's that seperate them from all the others? By the way: I guess Lane's is the way I should go :D.

you won't regret it |
RE: Hunting w/ loose powder
I think i have well over 80 of them now. They have so many uses. I store #11 caps, 209 primers, my inserts for powerbelts, Hell i even put some tru oil in one and screwed the cap on and sent it to forum member corey so he could add a couple coats to the barrel i had browned for him. They dont leak!
![]() Heres some pictures to compare. I HATE these TC speedloaders as you have to load the powder on the nose of the bullet. Every time i push a bullet down, the face of the bullet would be coated with powder. That does not help with consistency. ![]() ![]() Thinner neck makes for easier pouring down the bore. Plus they wont pop open like the other speedloader does. Nothing worse than that happening and wasting good expensive powder. When i go hunting i just load of 3 of Lanes powder tubes and then fill up the another to carry my bullets. I like using the small tubes as i shoot lower powder charges and they leave me with more room in my possibles bag. You'll love them when you get yours. I also believe he has green caps as well, Along with Red and White. |

Those are nice looking tubes/

I find it quite handy to slip 3 bullets with sabots on the into one of Lanes tubes, with the load in the gun thats 4 shots; I do not want to clean that many deer bear or hogs in one day anyhow. Lee

You all have been a great help. Thanks a bunch (especially with the pics)!!

RE: Hunting w/ loose powder
I use these...
![]() They're RedHead and sold at Bass Pro. $6 for 3 of them. They're exactly the right size to squeeze 120g BH209, a Barnes T-EZ/sabot, and a primer. It fits perfect and doesn't rattle at all. Then I just open the powder end, pour in the powder, and the sabot lands right in the QLA. Then I catch the primer in my hand. |

titleAndStar(1500,0,false,false,"","") I use to use that type all the time and they work fine too. I prefer the vials like Lane sells. Proof is that the old speed loaders never get used any more. To each their own, That's what makes this sport great. Art |

I agree. Lanes tubes are pretty cool. I just like to be able to carry everything in one tube. Makes it a whole lot easier to reload if I need to.

gotta agree with you while hunting I really do prefer the 4 in 1 loader so that everything is available quickly. Although i do use the tubes when I load by scale and I am going to the range... |

I tried Lane's e-mail address of [email protected] and the e-mail won't go thru. Anybody have another address?

I also bought a bunch from Lane and use them at the range. They are great.

Don't know what's wrong with the Juno mail, but you can also reach me by PM or at:

I ordered 25 of Lane's tubes and they are great, I just wish I had of ordered more of the small size as they will hold 100 grains of loose powder easily. 25 for $9.00 including shipping vs 3 of the store brands for $6.00 or more plus shipping is a no-brainer.

I had the same question about losing powder in the excitement of the moment. When lurking on some of the traditional forums I read about paper cartridges. So what I did was make a measured charge of loose powder in rice (cigarette) paper. I used a 7/16 dowel rod for a template to form the empty case and then filled with loose powder. I have not had an opportunity to use this hunting yet but have done some range testing and it does not seem to change the accuracy of my load.
I also have some of Lane's tubes. I bought 75 and split them with my brother and nephew. After my first range session with them I regretted not buying more or at least giving any to my bro. I will buy more because they are very handy. |
I use Lane's tubes and last year under extreme pressure was able to load and get a second shot at a huge buck out of my ladder stand. The buck ended up 30 yards hehind me in a blowdown. I was hidinign behind the tree and loading quickly and nervous as a cat in a dog pound.
