Heard a rumor today that Knight was closing their doors. I then went home and found the following press release by Knight http://www.knightrifles.com/ and http://www.ammoland.com/2009/06/14/knight-rifles-closing/

I dont think there any more gone then General Motors. Here is my opinion on this. How can a company continue to stay open for warranty work and service with no cash flow coming into the company? I'm sure people will have answers and opinions as well as me but here's 2 cents worth. I really for see a new re-structure of the company. Pretty much only make one Muzzleloader and service and do warranty work on the rest. I really think the Ultimate Slam is not the Ultimate Muzzleloader yet. I still think things need tested and improved upon. Only time will tell but we will see sooner rather then later.

I really hope they're not. I really want to try one of their rifles but as long as their company is "Going out of business", I refuse to buy anything from them.

Because I'm from Iowa, and as most know, a big Knight fan....I recently went to the Inventory Reduction Sale at Knight in Centerville, Iowa.
They do an inventory reduction every five years. It just so happened that this sale coincided with the announcement of their closing.

I had a chance to speak to five different individuals, one of which was the former Director of Operations of Knight in Centerville.

Officially, they would not comment.

Unofficially, they all said they thought someone was going to purchase Knight, though they remained rather tight lipped as to who the players were.

That said...

I would not be afraid to buy ANY bolt action Knight rifle. They make (made) the finest bolt action available. Parts are plentiful, and there are tons of parts and rifles on the market. Except their most accurate out of the box offering, the Elite, as production was somewhat limited.

THAT is what Knight knows and does the best.

Customer Service always was, and remains a huge priority. And why not...who would want to purchase a company with a reputation for bad service.

Lets hope Knight Rifles is purchased by someone with vision (no pun intended) who will set about healing the wounds left by EBSCO/PRADCO and some of their goofy inventions, and re-build on legacy of the bolt gun.

I had a chance to; heft, pick up, feel, mess with, drool on, and examine the Ultimate Slam. THAT will be their playing card to return and regain their market share.

Personally, if I wanted a Knight I would not worry about buying one. Parts have to be out there. Also this is the time to get some good deals. The only one I might stay away from is their .52 caliber.

I sometimes wish I would have picked up one of them Extremes that were on sale a few weeks back. I had an Extreme and it was an excellent rifle. But I passed because I really did not need or have room for another rifle.

From a business perspective, the most likely thing is that someone would buy the brand, and then slap the name on inferior Traditions-produced products or the like. Given Knight's performance over the past few years I'm not convinced they'd buy them and let them try to re-start as-is. I hope someone would restart them where they are but I'm doubtful.

Too bad, always thought I'd own one eventually.

I could not resist some of the good deals out there and picked up a new Extreme for $180. Someone will pick these guys up -- they have a great brand, customer service, and products.

I for one am not afraid to buy another Knight. I've been busy on the phone already trying to run down a new Exteme or Elite. This sickens me:(
