I just posted this inside Lee's thread but it is buried so deep it migh not get that many views...

What do uall think????

You know to go along with this thread (Lee's accuracy thread)... Grouse brought this to my attention the other day... I wonder how many of us even shoot the most accurate projectile from our rifles... ML or Centerfire??? After he mentioned that, i guess I got to admit I am one that does not, I want an accurate bullet certainly, but the most accurate takes second place to the most effective - which often is NOT the most accurate! Nosler Partition's are a case in point, certainly not the most accurate but in my mind the most effective through all the different ranges and hunting conditions.

Just thinking out loud again...

I'll gladly give up a one-inch grouping bullet with questionable performance for a three-inch grouping bullet with reliable performance. If you make an absolutely perfect shot with a bullet that does not expand, or over expands,you may be in for a long tracking job or a lost animal. A hit two inches off of absolutly perfect with a bullet the expands and penetrates will likely produce better results.

The most effective bullets placed right will eliminate tracking all together. Also while we talk about the most accurate bullet it does not mean that because a different bullet shoots a half inch bigger group that the deer will ever know the difference at normal ranges. I have run into a few bullets that just won't shoot out of a certain gun; I for one would not even consider using a bullet for hunting that would not group in 2.5 inches, but since most of them will if you work with them its not a problem. That's fine if your bullet works.

Example: Hornady 250grn Soft Tip FTX. That is the most accurate bullet i have ever shot i think.:D That bullet is absolutely useless. I shot Four Deer with that bullet and only found three. The three that i did find i needed help. No Blood at all. These were good shot's to. Maybe if you shot this bullet in the shouder it would anchor the animal but anything else forget it. The T/C SW is a much better bullet with the hard tip.

To me accuracy is everything...

I have never been able to convince myself that I could/should take that fine of a shot at a big game animal - I want the meat to bad... I have shot a couple of deer under the ear but they were close...

I'm right there with you sabotloader. I know there are bullets that are more accurate out of my muzzleloader, but I prefer the Barnes line of bullets for their performance. They group well enough for me to be comfortable and confident when I take a shot on an animal.

Some times it can be a wide range of choices, I have not found any combination yet that won't shoot under 2.5 inches with my new Endeavor. So far the Lehigh 200gr @ about 2400 feet per second is the only one that shoots under an inch most loads so far will consistently group between 1 .1 and 1.4 and while the Triumph will shoot certain bullets better it is a lot fussier because it either shoots them real good or all over. I like having a wide range of choices and a consistent grouping under 1.5" is not a problem to me for hunting at any range I will shoot at a live animal at. Lee
