Knight .45 Elite range report

Last season I used a Wolverine 209 in .45 and did very well with it. I wanted to turn things up a notch and bought a NIB .45 Elite.

I installed Weaver S45 steel bases and Warne QD low mount steel rings. I topped it off with a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40mm scope.

I started with the load that worked well in the Wolverine;

110 gr BH209
200 gr SST/SW
Harvester smooth light blue sabot
Winchester 209

I was using the NFPJ conversion and it shot well with 110 gr. However, 120 gr BH209 shot even better. The trigger has too much creep and if I adjust it all out, the trigger blocks the safety. I will just learn to live with the creep for now. That's my excuse for pulling one of the four bullets that went through this 100 yard target. Look closely, there really are four holes there.

My rifle range was buried in hay so I had to improvise and use a bucket of sand. I was able to retrieve all of the bullets that were shot in the above target. I used a Martin Archery scale to do a quick measure on the TC SW bullets shot with 120 gr BH209.

These are the rounded hard plastic tip SW. I will test the rounded flex tip SST some time this summer. I have shot about 25 bullets through this gun, and to say I am pleased is an understatement.

That is not only a beautiful looking rifle, but you are doing some fantastic shooting. Any time you get a new rifle and shoot those kinds of groups, you sure have to be happy with that.

Thanks guys! Sorry, the grin just won't go away. :)

Not that I get this feeling or anything here, but I want to state that I am not an elitist (pun intended) that feels shooting one caliber over another merits some honor. I just like trying something a little different and mastering it.

The .45 has done everything I have needed it to do in the shotgun only area I hunt it. This rifle can really soak up the recoil. I thought I would get hammered going to 120 gr BH209 but I think the rifle could take more.
