Best solvent

I buy a new gun every year [thats all I allow myself ] and quite often it is a TC or a Ruger, I have a difficult time getting the grease or what ever they use out of the barrel. Scrubbing it with Alk and different bore cleaners takes a number of times. Is there a solvent that will warshthe grease, especally for a TCright out?

Acetone or a spray can of carburetor cleaner or break cleaner.

I used Barnes CR-10 to clean out that new Triumph. It really worked well for me - kinda worried me a bit though the first bunch of patches came out BRIGHT blue. I would run a really wet patch get out as much I could with that then go back and run a saturated patch and let the CR-10 sit in the bore for 1/2 hour then bach with a wet one - followed by dry patches.

CR-10 is a very powerful solvent - Do not use it in the house

Or I think mineral spirts (aka paint thinner) would do a good job.

I've always used Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber on new guns. I run a soaking wet patch down the bore, add a blast from the can, then I brush the barrel good. After that I just start patching it out with damp BCBS patches. When they finally come out clean, then I dry patch it.

I've found that Gun Scrubber will remove any grease or oils. You can pick it up at Wally world usually. Or like Semisane said, brake cleaner will work well. But you have to be sure to re-oil immediately or you will have surface rust issues in a day or two depending on humidity. Another good cleaner is Break Free CLR. Its slower to remove the grease but it cleans, lubricates and is a rust inhibitor.

CR10 is some thing I do not know about. I would like to know where to obtain it. What type of store do you find it in. Lee
