New Question of the Week

If you were to do an African big game hunt(cape, ele,Hippo) what gun and load would you use.
I know i'm not experinced enough with a blkpwdr..so on the dangerous 3.. the 460 weatherby mag would be my choice. If I shot like some on here you better believe the ProHunter would be my choice with 150g and a heavy bullet of some sort.

RE: New Question of the Week

Jim Chamber's version of Mark Silver's flintlock in .62 caliber...I'd have to work up a load, guessing that anywhere from 120-150grs of FF Goex would be about right...

50cal ULA with a 275grn Lehigh over 60grns of VV N120. Topped with a leupold Ultimate slam Muzzleloader scope. The ULA is a smokeless Muzzleloader for those that don't know.

760 Pumpmaster:D

Probably one of Dan's big 620g conicals and my 700ML. Of course I'm only shooting it once, so someone's going to have to sight it in for me :D

My White SS91 - 600gr Bullshop with possibly a little harder lead alloy.
Work the T7 to at least 120gr - more if the group stays reasonable - won't worry too much about leading as we aren't talking
a lot of shooting.

New 6" thick recoil pad:D:D

Gotbuck, with a barrel that long, you could beat them to death at a safe distance... what caliber is that rifle?

Personally for me it would be my White Ultra Mag .504 topped with a Nikon Omega Scope. I would load a 500 gain Bull Shop conical, 120 grains of Triple Seven 2f, with a wad, and aim for the top of the heart. That big conical should penetrate and do the deed.

Also I would make sure my guide had a good modern rifle and was an excellent shot. And clean underwear in the land rover in case things got hairy...

Pro Hunter and a 300 grain xtp/mag shooting about 120-130 grains BH209 . or one of the spanish or Pedesoli 50 caliber doubles w/a big hunk of lead in ot. The I got 2 shots, if I miss the first I [:@]turn and shoot one of the gun bearers to slow him down!!!

Actually I think Steve called the best one... think that is exactly what Doc used while he was over there...

Of course there are muzzleloaders that they used over tham many years ago - that worked just fine...

Cayugad, that there is an 8 guage goose gun I saw on one of the old websites us inliners were banned from. The fellow says he used around 250 grains of powder and close to 4 oz of shot. Yes there is no recoil pad either. Ouch. That would be fun to shoot but at 25 pounds you had better have a shooting stick.:D
