Question on Montana Extreme
 

OK you guys that are using the Cowboy Blend and the Bore conditioner I have a question.
After shooting my T/C silver yesterday and giving it a good hot water cleaning, I dried it out good and decided to use the cowboy and bore conditioner.
With the barrel still hot, I kept running patches of the CB through the bore until they came out clean. Then when I applied the BC the patch came out grey. So I kept wiping the bore until clean with the BC. Today I check it and when I ran a dry patch down, it came out grey again!. The bore looks spotless. It took about 10 patches both sides until the grey stopped coming out of the bore.
What's going on here? Are you guys experiencing any of this?

I have not experienced that. I am wondering if the BC is pulling old deposits from the bore of the rifle..

Dave - It could be. I got this rifle used. And the bore did have some minor pitting that I removedwith lapping. I just wonder if the lead lapping plug I used left some trace deposits in the bore and the CB and/or the BC is dissolving it.

I think I would like to agree with cayugad on this... it really could be left over machining residue caught up in the pores. The CB cleaning fluid and the MX-BC will leach stuff out of the bore and from behind the lands. Personally I think it takes a couple of applications to get all of the old stuff out of the barrel bore....

I did not know your Silver was a PRB gun until I read your other post.... But when you first talked 'grey' my very first thought was lead - now that I see you are shooting PRB's - I think it might be lead.... but you have to remember I am a junior novice rank ameture at shooting a PRB's.... but if your patches tear on the way down or on the way up and the ball is exposed to the lands and grooves - lead fouling begins... just a thought....

Sabot, I checked the patches at the range and they were perfect. No rips or tears or burnout. It is probably lead like I said in my response to Cayugad. I will just swab it every day or so until it all works out.

Well after a couple days of swabbing to remove the BC, then applying new, the patches are coming out clean (just he reddish tint from the BC). I guess it leached out all the lead in the pores of the bore.
