Any decent 44 cal. (.429 - .430) bullets for the Omega?

I recently got my first ML, an Omega X7, and am slowly stocking up on sabots/bullets to see what works. I purchased some MMP sabots (the green ones) on sale from Cabelas and was curious if anyone knew of some good loads for them.

i do not own an Omega. Since 2000 i have been shooting the 240 grain .430 XTP in my CVA guns. Have killed about 20 deer and dozens of hogs with that bullet: Most were bang flops. Started out using large charges of Pyrodex and found it was not necessary. For years i used100 grains of RS and the 240 grain XTP bullet:Concurrently iused two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets. Am now using 110 grains of 2F Goex Pinnacle and the 240 grain XTP bullet.

The 240 grain .430 XTP is a good bullet. Put it where it is supposed to go and you will have meat on the table.

My Genesis like the 300 gr Hornady .430" xtp with a Harvester green CR sabot.

Have a friend who uses the old265 grain .430Hornady flat point on elk. Every year he kills a couple of elk with his Knight and that bullet. The 265 grain flat point bullet was designed for use in the .444 Marlin and it will stand up to anything a muzzleloader can dish out.

I agree that 265 gr is an excellent bullet and a good compromise between the 240 and 300 grain.

Thanks for all the replies.

On more question from this newbie. For a given weight, is there any advantage or disadvantage in shooting .44 cal versus .45 cal, or is it just a question of what shoots best out of your rifle.

Thanks again

while there might be a slight difference in the BC and SD between the two calibers, what difference there is would make little difference. Look more to the construction of the bullet for the job you want it to do.

No significant difference between similar bullets in 44 vs 45 caliber, you have to step down to 40 to really see a significant difference.

Personally I'd give the 265 FTX a try, I have a box and they are next on my testing list.

Only had time to try 265FTX and I got 2 - 1" MOA groups with BH209 and 120BH and Crush rib sabots. Speed was 2050 and 2111
