Turkey pics (shotgun)

Shot this bird Friday. My 2nd in NY (only allowed 2). My first was a jake. Both with shotgun. Haven't gotton that smoothbore ML bug yet. Must be fun though.

Since you asked...I have a spot that is a turkey honey hole. Meaning, they're always there. You can roost them in the same spot every night, every year. Not just one...more like 3 or 4 or sometimes more. They are just not that easy to kill. Hunting there for about7 years my buddies and I have taken a total of5 birds from this spot. My BIL and I have accounted for4 of those. With all the birds that are there you would think we could do better. [:@]This year I broke thru with 2. :)

My secret plan was to not get up early and listen to them gobble all morning long. My plan before the season was to secure permission (with my daughters help I may add) to hunt the land accross the road. This land was previously off limits. But a new owner bought it. It's only about 12 acres but it's the "right" 12 acres. They often cross into this area after gobbling and loafing on the mountain where we were hunting them.

So Friday morning I set up a little later than usual in the "new" spot across the road. When I got there they were gobbling up on that hilllike crazy. At least 4. I proceeded to call in three hens, right into my lap. The gobblers were not far behind. 4 jakes and two gobblers came in.I Shot the biggest at about 30 yards. See...now I'm an expert. ;)

My daughter was not there. She had to work. She feels it's unfair, after helping us get permission, that I hunted there without her. :eek:But...now I can guide her this coming Friday and hope she is as lucky as I was.

She also cooks up some mean "Christin's Special Golden Wild Turkey Nuggets". [:-]

Nice bird Old - I'm still trying to chase one down. So far all I've seen are hens and a few grouse. Haven't heard too many gobbling either lately.

Nice bird there O/N. Just tell your daughter it's not your fault she's a productive andemployed citizen - you tried to teach her better.
