Trying T-7 pellets today
I have not had a chance to shoot Triple Seven pellets in my Black Diamond XR. And since I injured my knee again, I am back on crutches. So I did not want to walk too far into the woods on them.
The target was 75 yards away. I was shooting two pellets. The bullet I decided to use was 200 grain Shockwaves. ![]() The BD seems to like Triple Seven pellets. So to compare it to something, I used some Pyrodex RS 100 grains (as the rifle likes this load). ![]() After all of that I started just shooting about anything I had in the shooting bag. It was very windy, and looked like rain, so I finally decided to call it a day. |

Nice shooting ...my Xr i have only shot pyrodex pellets...next time i will try the 777's. What about Grouse's bullets ever try any?

Nice shooting. T7 good!

RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
And since I injured my knee again, I am back on crutches. Wow. T7 pellets gave you a better group than loose Pyrodex? I would not have expected that, but then I've never used pellets. Were you swabbing between shots with the Pyrodex also (there was no note on thattarget)? |
RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
Yes I was swabbing with the loose Pyrodex RS as well.
What about Grouse's bullets ever try any? Since you asked, I went and took a picture of the group. Now this is the first time I have every shot these bullets so other then the fact they loaded beautiful, and seemed to group well, I have no other opinion at this point. I have no idea of the velocity 120 grains of Pyrodex would give, or how the bullet would perform on game animals. ![]() I made a mistake in the label on the photo. They were not 200 grain. They were 250 grain. I want to do a lot more testing with these, but only got twenty of them so I have to be selective in my testing. |

Great target with those 250's - certainly helps confirm what I found also. I am guessing your velocity would be in the high end of the 1800 fps mark. If you can shoot a few from a 1/48 just for drill. I should have some more in a few days and I will also shoot them from a 1/48 Renegade also. |
RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
cayugad,
The 200grn Shockwaves are accurate in most Muzzleloaders. I actually have shot a few Deer with them as well. They worked just fine for me. I actually prefered the 220grn DeadCenter over the ShockWaves. They imo did a better job on game. Those 250grn Lehigh's dont need the speed to shoot. It's the 200grn bullets in 50calibers that need pushed to stabilize. Great shooting with all bullets and loads. |

CAY
What did you do step in a hole and twist that knee?? You need to uses the 4 wheeler back and forth to target stands. |
RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
I messed my knee up years ago and am too ornery (and too tight, so I have been told) to go and have the surgery done to fix it. So I just have to be real careful or it will suddenly go out.Sometimes it takes days for it to work back into place. So to speed that up I go back on crutches to take the strain off it.
It went out when I was trying to start a very hard to get started 30 year old wood splitter engine. You'd be surprised how much you pivot on your knee when you pull start one of them old Briggs & Stratton engines. So today I went and got a tune up kit for the thing and will throw a condenser and new points and plug in it. Then maybe it can start, I can get all this firewood split and stacked, and get back to important things like shooting muzzleloaders. |

Great report on the Black Diamond. And nice shooting.

RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
Convenience wise the pellets are great. But reading about the moisture issues, consistency and being able to play it got expensive to shoot and maintain the different grains of powder i wanted to shoot. With loose and Lanes tubes I can load 3-4 different grains of powder I can play more cheaper.

RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
I shoot pellets because I like to experiment. 99% of my shooting is loose powder. 90% of that shooting is black powder. I'm too cheap to shoot pellets all the time, but I do like to play with different loads. Actually my Genesis surprised me last winter when shooting Pyrodex RS pellets. The accuracy was exceptional.

RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
The first time I shot my Omega I used the T7 pellets. Very convient but they do absorb moisture. By the time I got to the end of the pellets, I did notice that they were.....not bone dry, just a whisker damp (for lack of a better word). My Omega loved them, they were very convienient but it was the absorbing affect that turned me off. The crumbled when I seated my sabot, I could fell them compress. There was no solid stop like there was before. Just my experience.

RE: Trying T-7 pellets today
We are dealing with the knee problem here to, my wife just got out of the Hospital with a total knee replacement, I won't get much shooting in until she is back on her feet. After that I will be doing a boar hunt, since I like to use every opportunity to test something I will be testing some bullets I have not used on animals before, and if it arrives in time my new stainless Endeavor.
