44 cap & ball question

Hi everybody, just curious if anybody has done any research into the energy of a 44 cap & ball load? Kind of looking for specific number at muzzle and 50 yds. Failing that info, any ideas on how to measure the energy on a shot? I know it'll penetrate so many pine boards at so many feet, but I'm looking for an actual number....:)

You need a chronograph.

MV x MV x Ball weight in grains

Divide the above by 450,240 for foot-lbsmuzzle energy.

Cheaper than a chrony, get a book that lists loads and velocities.
