Lets get some opinions and have fun
#1 Of all the muzzleloader rifles you have owned... if you could only keep one. Which one would you keep? Why?
#2 Of all the muzzleloaders you have seen or read about. If the good muzzleloading fairy was going to leave you a present under your pillow, which non custom (in other words, factory assembly) muzzleloader would you like to wake up to? Why? (and these can not be sold for profit) #3 If you did not own any muzzleloaders. BUT had the knowledge and experience you had with muzzlelaoder that you do. Would you still buy the same rifles over again? Or would you change your buying habits and purchase totally different? Also lets put a kicker on this.. no scopes would be allowed on these rifles. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
1 Without a doubt It would be my White U-M, It shoots conicals very well accurate as can be, I go to Co. for deer/elk and its conicals only.
2-Nula 3- I would start with the U-M instead of a Renegade Redclub |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
1- My 700ML. It shoots sabots and conicals very well. Honestly, I don't NEED anything else besides it now.
2- Any White ML. I'm not picky, the muzzleloader fairy can surprise me :D 3- Yep, but I'm not someone that buys on impulse. I also don't buy in excess so I'm very choosy in my guns. I currently do not regret any of my currenty purchases. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
I'd keep the one I made in the late 80s...I've only got one factory made muzzleloader, a Knight Disc, it seems as good as any factory made gun...
Yep, I'd buy the same all over...My third gun is the first I ever bought in 1977...I got lucky on that one, it's a Bob Watts flintlock and I paid less than $500 for it...I've been offered $3,000 for it... |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
1. My MK-85 Predator. Used it for hunting with the irons before scopes were allowed and with a scope after they became legal. Was a lucky gun for me.
2. White Super 91 in .451. I have the .451 Whitetail, but the Super 91 handles recoil better and has the classic look. Should have kept it. 3. My first MZwas the .50 T/C Hawken ('72... i.e. 1972) :D That was a great one to start with; everybodyhad one... I'd do that again no question. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
1- This one is kinda tough for me cuz I only have one ML. T/C Omega. I love it.
2- White 3- Im not one for extra bells and whistles. I did a lot of research before I bought my Omega and I liked it then for the same reasons I like it now. Its a hunting tool. Basic, dependable, accurate, inexpencive. I figured it was the best bang for my buck. And I still do. There are more expencive MLs out there but they all do the same thing. Just like a flyrod. I have 2 Sage Flyrods and I have caught just as many fish with my St. Croix as I have with my Sages. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
Omega X7 I know boring. But it would work great with a peep. The ML fairy could bring me a gray laminate stock for it & Id be happy.
|
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
As much as I like inlines if I could only have one gun[my wife alows no more than 20 says we don't have room for more than that] it would be the Hawken I built in 80 from a set of plan taken from the one in the ST louis Museum.
But why would anyone ever be limited to one gun? Lee |

And Knight cured the blow back issues. 3- I would buy the same Muzzleloaders again. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
Since you did not limit the fairy to rifles, I would like her to leave a 20 ga. double under my pillow. I would love to rabbit and grouse hunt with black powder.
|
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
#1 - I only own two and of the twoI would keep the omega. The other is a t/c hawken. Since I got the omega I haven't even picked up the hawken even though its a very nice rifle.
#2 - I guess I'd enjoy getting an endeavor. #3 - I would definitely buy another omega. I love that gun. I'm not a person who needs multiple guns. If someone gave me other nicemuzzy's for free, I would still grab the omega over them. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
OK you did say factory assembled so that leaves outafter marketGreen Mtn. barrels.
#1. T/C Hawken 50 cal flinter. Can be used any season, any state. And plenty accurate. #2. That's a tough one. But I think I would have to go with a T/C Hawken Cougar, 50 cal caplock. These had some really pretty wood and I think they are cool. Adn I do have a soft heart for well figured walnut and women..:D #3. Actually, I think I would stay with the same choices I have made. I'm happy with the ones I have chosen. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
Hey Dave - you started this. What are your answers??
|
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
cayugad
Gees! Dave that is really tough for me.... 1. Of all the muzzleloader rifles you have owned... if you could only keep one. Which one would you keep? Why? That is really a difficult decision - but I really think I would say the 26" 50 cal Remington 700ml SS-black Synthetic... why? I have not found anything it will not shoot accurately. It is dependable and I trust it totally - point and shoot!! But choosing ONE is very difficult... 2. Of all the muzzleloaders you have seen or read about. My mind right now goes directly to a 50 cal Knight Disc Elite SS with synthetic stock. 3. If you did not own any muzzleloaders. BUT had the knowledge and experience you had with muzzlelaoder that you do. Would you still buy the same rifles over again? Or would you change your buying habits and purchase totally different? I think i would probably do exactly the same but skip the CVA's that I had purchased along the way. Even the A&H's that I bought were functional and good shooters... it was just that long bolt that finally got to me... Kicker - well shoot I did not read that til just now - you just made it difficultier (new word) So that eliminates my thought of the Disc Elite... so now I might go to the Omega/Triumph route... This thread does require some soul searching.... |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
I"d keep my .54 renegade it"s the only one i have"nt figured out. karl
|
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
#1 My Encore Pro Hunter....The best shooting gun I own period. Best Looking. Most $$$$
#2 Any Civil War musket from a mississippi regiment....my dads family fought for the south plus the value of a rifle would be a nice addition to the safe. #3 Yes I would started in 1980 with a Renegade went on to a early Cva inline and now have 5 total looking for #6 |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
#1 Of all the muzzleloader rifles you have owned... if you could only keep one. Which one would you keep? Why?
The one rifle I would keep above all the others is my White Ultra Mag. With that rifle there is nothing I could not hunt in the world. And since a scope is not really necessary with the rifle, a Lyman Peep sight might be an addition but even without, they are just a tuff rifle to beat. #2 Of all the muzzleloaders you have seen or read about. If the good muzzleloading fairy was going to leave you a present under your pillow, which non custom (in other words, factory assembly) muzzleloader would you like to wake up to? Why? (and these can not be sold for profit) Since I have a most of the major rifles out there, if one were going to be left under my pillow I would want a Thompson Center Triumph. #3 If you did not own any muzzleloaders. BUT had the knowledge and experience you had with muzzlelaoder that you do. Would you still buy the same rifles over again? Or would you change your buying habits and purchase totally different? No, I would not own all these rifles if I had to do it all over again. Somehow, I went a little insane collecting, and I really don't know why. As if there is a reason for the collection I have, which believe me, there is not. Doing it all over again, I would be much more selective. I would have one inline, the White Ultra Mag. I would still collect a Flintlock and percussion cap Renegade and then a couple of Green Mountain Barrels later. But other then that, justa couple of real nice custom rifles in flintlocks. |

RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
1. One on the most least expensive ML on the market. My CVA Wolf because it was my first, a Christmas present (can't sell off Christmas presents), I get 1 inch groups at 100 yards, and I've taken four shots at four deer. All four are in the freezer.
2. Probably a Savage 10ML 3. I would have probably not havebought my KRB7. Not that I'm disappointed in it, I can't shoot BH209 with it. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
White Umag and CVA Accura - screw your rules. ;)

#1 Of all the muzzleloader rifles you have owned... if you could only keep one. Which one would you keep? Why?
That's just a plain mean question Cayugad.:D It's causing me too much anguish just thinking about it. I'm tempted to say the .54 GP flintlock, but in all honesty it would have to be the Omega X7 because it'ssuch a great shooting, easy carrying, easy cleaning gun that will cover any and all hunting situations I'll ever encounter. #2 Of all the muzzleloaders you have seen or read about. If the good muzzleloading fairy was going to leave you a present under your pillow, which non custom (in other words, factory assembly) muzzleloader would you like to wake up to? Why? It would be a Perdersoli Mortimer flintlock target rifle - .45 caliber / 1:21 twist. Why - just look at the picture. :) (If you can't have fun with that gun, you are incapable of having fun. :D) ![]() #3 If you did not own any muzzleloaders. BUT had the knowledge and experience you had with muzzlelaoder that you do. Would you still buy the same rifles over again? Or would you change your buying habits and purchase totally different? No doubt about it - my purchases wouldbe different. I might end up with one or two of the same guns I now own, but the process of getting there would be organized. I would be looking for six top qualityguns - deciding just which one of each would be half the fun: One.50 caliber in-line. One.40 or .45caliber flintlock. One.54caliber flintlock. One .58 caliber military musket. One .54 caliber underhammer caplock. One 12 gauge double caplock. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
Hmmmm the one I would keep would be my G-series Whitetail. This gun has tagged me alot of deer over the years and has been a dandy rifle.
The one I would like to have would be the triumph or another White rifle. I think I would by the same ones again. I own 5 ML's and all shoot just purty darn good. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
If I had to go with onlyone non custom muzzeloaderwith iron sightsI would go with the old style TC Renegade .54 caliber with double set triggers and flint ignition.
Reasons: 1. 54 caliber roundball has enough weight tocreate enough horsepower to cleanly kill any animal in north america. 2. If Ifeel the need for more enegery I can upgrade to a 430gr Maxi 3. A good flint can give 50 to 100 shots and can be shipped without hazardous materials fees. 4. If needed, Ican pick ip a rock and chip itinto a crude flint that will work. 5. With a well made flintlock, such as the old renegade, ignition is fast and reliable and cleaning is easy. 6. The old Renegade is durable and rugged. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
54Cal Lyman deerstalker percussion
Encore I would do the same just more like Cay. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
[Also lets put a kicker on this.. no scopes would be allowed on these rifles. [/quote] I wanted to put in another vote for the Omega on all 3 questions. Have taken 3 bucks in the 4 years with it. But seeing as I am half blind without that image enhancement tube on it, should be ok to record my vote as an Omega with a peep sight. [8D] |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
#1 My White Super 91 in .504
#2 White Super 91 in .410 because I don't have one #3 Alot of the muzzleloaders I have bought became money pits. If I could do it all over I would buy some Whites and be done with it. |
RE: Lets get some opinions and have fun
[ul][*]Pro Hunter[*]Lyman GP flinter (cause I don't own a flinter yet)! [:o][*]Even though I answered question #1 with thr PH, if I didn't own one I may buy something different. It's a great gun but I don't use the other barrels I have for it much. So...I may have bought a ??????...oh....I don't know!!! ;)[/ul]
