RE: It was worth the time
Fantastic! job. Did you carve the deer on the patchbox? Nice touch. I'm still looking for my 58 cal and it hurts bad.

Looks good Bronko. What did you use for the final finish? I'm in the process of refinishing my Zouave and have stripped and stained the stock, but still haven't decided on what to use for the final step.

RE: It was worth the time
Well the deer head was what took the longest. I have a friend that does all kinds of engraving and screen printing etc. He had the patchbox cover for almost a month trying to find an image that he could put into his computer to engrave it. And I had to make a jig to hold the cover in place on his engraving table.
As for the finish, there is no stain on this stock. It has about 12 coats of Tru-Oil on it. And once the Tru-oil was good and dry, I sprayed it with clear gloss acrylic paint. I probably didn't have to but I thought it may be a bit tougher finish. |

RE: It was worth the time
Was going to take it out today and try her out with PRBs but I had things to do and had a dentist appointment. He had to replace a crown I lost over the weekend and he told me he didn't advise shooting today. Was on the same side as I shoot.
Damn Milk Duds. Pulled the crown right off my tooth. From now on I'm only going to suck the chocolate off them and give the carmel to my wife. On a side note - the feller sent me an email that he got the payment for my other Hawken and he was going to send it out today. And T/C wants me to send in the trigger assembly to get the front trigger return spring replaced. |
