grrrr, coyote problems
 

well found out today there is an coyote in my primary hunting area. I don't have an centerfire varmint gun. just have my 22 and muzzies.

Should I sight in my 22 for 100yrds
or

get some 45cal 195gr powerbelts get push them with 85 to 95grs of pyrodex rs? win apex

I personally feel a .22 caliber is not a good long range weapon for a clean kill. If I were you I would take a muzzleloader and work up a light projectile that had excellent 100 yard accuracy and hit them with that.

Coyotes are strange animals. I used to hunt them and always thought them very intellegent. Then this winter I had one that would come to the yard and stand under the bird feeders even when I was on the deck. Not that the coyote was not watching me close, but he seemed more concerned as to what I might be willing to feed him. He was coming to the house because of my usual winter war on red squirrels. I hunt them in the winter, but they are not very good to eat. They do a lot of damage around the house, so I like to keep them thinned out you might say. The coyote must have figured out there would be one or two dead ones each day, so he'd show up for his free meal.

A.50 muzzleloader does a good job on coyotes. i like to shoot them with the 240 grain XTP when they are looking at me. When the bullet hits them they blow up like a balloon for a split second and then deflate. For long range coyotes my Mathieu with its 28" barrel in .300 Win Mag does a good job.

I would use whatever your ML is sighted in for now for Deer.

Who needs a varmint gun? I just use a 300WM loaded to 3800fps with 110gr V-Max bullets ;D

Try a 200SW as fast as it's accurate. You won't have to worry as much about how far away he is shooting flat. If you think 100 yds is about all you'll get, just use the opportunity for more practice with your usual hunting load. It'll do fine, whatever it is.

If it's just a few that you're having trouble with then just use whatever you have your ML sighted in for. If you're planning to hunt them more frequently, then you could develop a load. I use 200g XTPs for them.

I don't know how many there are. I know of at least one. I heard it a few nights ago. I do have an hunting load for my 45cal win apex. maybe get an chance to test some of md's tips on it and see how they do on an real animal. still bring my 22 as fallow up.

BH 209 110 grain and some 200 grain xtpmag 10mm w/ a CR, will put that problem to rest. I hunt em' my Pro Hunter 50 caliber and the same load I use for deer i use for yotes.
