For most of the length of the barrel it does burn cleaner.. it is that burn zone right under the sabot where the ring normally builds up. Some people say the temperature of the primer makes a big difference.
I was using the Winchester shotgun 209 primers. Do you think If I used different primers I may get different results in a crud ring or no crud ring? I have never used anything else but Winchester 209 primers in my inlines.

I can only tell you what I do and it seems to work..

I use an old Remington primer - do not think it is even available any longer - it is a Remington 209-4 - built for 410 shotguns. And the other primer I use is the Winchester triple seven primer - both of these are much cooler than a regular Winchester.

So if I could suggest find the coolest 209 you can and try that....

This information is stolen from Toby Bridges ML site.

Winchester 209ML ........................221 f.p.s.

Winchester 209 Triple Seven ML.....244 f.p.s.

Remington 209 Kleanbore ML ........318 f.p.s.

Std. Winchester No. 209A ..............336 f.p.s.

Std. Remington No. 209 .................341 f.p.s.

Cheddite No. 209 ...........................347 f.p.s.

Federal No. 209A ...........................381 f.p.s.

And for comparison, we also ran the Precision Rifle "Vari-Flame" through this test, using both Winchester "Small Pistol" and "Small Rifle" primers.

Winchester WSP "Small Pistol" .......116 f.p.s.

Winchester WSR "Small Rifle" ........143 f.p.s.

I've started using T73F in my Knight 85 with RWS number 11 caps and I get the crud ring. I don't think RWS number 11s are hotter than a209.

You are exactly right... but the physics of the two are a lot different. Another thing and this is just my own personal opinion, the 'crud ring' may also be related to what is in the bore... The Temp and the Pressure are reacting and crystalizing with something. I have no idea what... All I know is for some reason I really feel no pain from shooting T7. I even shoot it with PRB's and it works well with very little residue left in the barrel.
