Percussion VS Flintlock costs
Ive spent $18+ on #11caps this month ( 300 rounds ). I spent $15 FOUR YEARS ago on a pound of 4f and i will have well over half a can left. I get 60 to 70 shots on one flint before i turn i around and use the other side. A flint costs me $1.38 from TOW. I have well over 1,500 shots on half a can of 4f and got to use it in 4 flintlocks that ive owned over the years.
Why the heck am i not shooting flintlocks? Ive scaled back to only 1 flinter and am now asking myself..... Why? This percussion lock is starting to get damned expensive for caps. |
RE: Percussion VS Flintlock costs
And...Flintlocks function quite well with FFF in the pan...I mold my own balls, buy pillow ticking in bulk for patches, make my own lube and with my .40 I use a 25gr charge of FFF...Pretty cheap to shoot...

RE: Percussion VS Flintlock costs
While I have not got 50 shots very often off one flint, I got them on sale. Flintlocks are cheaper to shoot. Especially if you have and can knapp ruff flint. Although normally there is a higher up front cost for a flintlock rifle over a percussion.
