XTPs in my Optima which one?

Whats the difference between the green saboted 240grxtp and the black saboted 240gr xtp? I am looking at using 100grs of tripple 7. So would the heavyer 300gr xtp be better off in my gun?

If you want shoot thru yes, the 300g is better. My experience with 250g class bullets is they are under the hide on the off side in most shots. 300g shoot thru, and offer more down range energy. You only loose like an inch at 150 yards in bullet drop between a 250 and a 300, but the gain in shoot thru is significant, especially if shooting down from a stand. Good blood trails, if you hit high in the chest and don't exit, IT IS VERY DIFFICULT to track a deer with that type of hit, even if it only goes 80 yard, you can loose them.

240gr and a black sabot. You will more than likely want the mmp-12. My optima didnt like that mmp-24 at all.

The difference is that the green sabot is combined with a 44 cal XTP. while the black sabot has 45 cal XTP. If you compare the bullets the 44cal should be a bit skinnier(new word) and a little taller. Those two bullets have probaly collected more animals fro a ML than any other bullet made. Even though I am not a fan of any XTP except the 10mm/200 grain XTP. They have done their damage and will continue to do their damage.

The 100 grain load will work equally well with either 240 or even a 300 but only your gun can tell you what might be better. You will have to shoot them to find out for sure. Also be aware their are 3different 300 grain XTP's. a .430/300 grain XTP, a .452/300 grain XTP, and .452/300 grain XTP-Mag.

Ranger -in the Harvester Crush Rib (CR) sabot the green is for 44 cal (.429" - .430")bullets and the black is for 45 cal bullets (.451"-.452").
That being said, I agree with Chap in that the 300 gr would be a better choice. You may get a bit more velocity with the 240 gr but the 300, at least in 2 of my rifles, is more accurate. (and packs a harder wallop).
A few of us use the .430" 300 gr XPT and a green CR sabot with good success.
