How much shooting do you do?

I try to shoot once a week. I spend about 4 hrs at the range as long as the wife and weather permit. I shoot about 20 or so rounds with my BP,
5-10 or so with my 30-06,100 or so rounds with various hand guns. Is that enough? Should I shoot more BP? I am doing pretty good. About ready to move from 100ydsto 150 yds. How much do you shoot?

How much shooting do you do?
Every opportunity i can... I live in civilization and we do not have ranges around here so I have to drive to a location, but when I can I do...

I really do not shoot CF much at all anymore, I will shoot a .17HMR and a .222 at peepers in the meadows April thru July. And once in awhile I will humiliate myself and shoot the 45acp.

Other than that give me 4 to 7 bottles of T7 to shoot each year and I am a happy camper.

How much shooting do you do?
I shoot 4-6 times a week, weather and health permitting. Once the snow is gone, its normally every day. I normally shoot 20-30 rounds a session. Normally after the black powder, I like to shoot off a couple hundred .22 shells out of various handguns.

Not as much as I'd like. I hate the cold weather so it will need to warm up. I admire the guys on here that go out in the teens and 20's but thats not for me.:)

I try for at least a couple times a week, any time I am not stuck on honey do's or fishing or hunting [ I hunt the year around varmints and hogs when I not hunting elk deer or bear] and of course I have to take care of my gardens and Master gardener projects. Its a rough life. Lee

RE: How much shooting do you do?

I usually shot something every day. I finished fitting the barrel to this on Sunday. Monday I made/finished the Breech Plug. I fit the forend on Tues. Since Monday 123 Winchester 209s have been threw the gun. This rifle was built to be a Hunting gun, but to me it is also a beautiful!:). It is giving new life to a piece of History. [8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]

This Rifle Started it's life as a Remington #5 1902 Pat. 7mm Spanish Mauser. It had previously been sporterized and wore this wood. Today it wears a 50 Cal. 26" barrel with 1 X24 twist made of Stainless steel.

This rifle was built to shoot the origonal Black powder substitute, yes the breech plug is fitted with a Savage vent Liner. This rifle is a Smokeless Muzzle loader:D:D The Scope is one of my Favorite Bushnell ScopeChiefs VI's 3x9 , it will soon be wearing it's hunting scope, a 20 mm ScopeChief VI,1.5x4.5:)

The rifle was purposly built to shoot my own cast Boolitz. the gun has been fired with 1 shot each of 80 and 100 gr.v BH209 for referance velocity. (These will be the only non smokeless it ever sees other than going to a Restrictive area that reguires foolishness.) the rest of the shooting will be and has been with IMR4759,XMR5744, and Reloader 7. Yes this is a Smokeless Muzzleloader.:D:D:D:D.
The Boolitz below are what it was built to shoot, they are Left: a 260gr. cast boolit from a mold I modified to this shape. it is a clone of the 250XTP bullet that is in the middle. the right Boolit is my "Ultimate MZ Boolit", it is from a LBT mold: 330 gr, .451, smooth sided beveled base, LFN. They ride down the barrel in a HBS plain black short Harvester. at the farm yesterday with the 330s it shot a 3" group at 175 yards, also did 5" at 300 yards.

The assembly in the above photo is my Knight T-Bolts firing pin, I modified it to fire 209s without piercing them , also made a bushing/spacer for the bolt to hold the primer in the BP.

That's some piece Screwbolts. Interesting.
As for shootin, I try to get out at least once a week. Its mostly been with the muzzys lately (except when it was really cold). Its starting to warm up now so there will be more smoke made.

By the Way 80grV of BH209 clock 1575 FPS with the 330s and 100 grV BH209 does 1805 FPS 330s if my memeory serves me right I will check my log book tomorow. I may be off I cronoed alot of loads today:):D. it got up to 38*.

I don't get to shoot nearly as often as I'd like. During the Spring and SummerI make the 82 mile trip to the hunting lease range about once or twice a month. But when I do it's for a two-day stay and I do a LOT of shooting. (OOPS! There goes another pound of powder.) Once October arrives I'm at the lease every week end, but hunting time really cuts into my shooting from Oct thru Jan. I sure wish I could shoot out of my back door like some of you guys.

Gees! wouldn't that be nice... I envy Dave walking out his back door plopping down a rifle and plugging away... gosh! that would be nice...

And we wonder why he is so far ahead of us mere mortals...

As much as the weather allows. Living in the Lake Effect Snow Belt Capitol of the U.S. it's hard to shoot in the Winter, execpt for Hunting Season of course. Other than that I live in the Country and I can shoot right out in the yard. But during the warmer weather we do it all the time. BP

I dont shoot nearly as much as I use to. Before my best friend died, 7 years agowe would load up a bunch of rifle shells and go shooting at least every other weekend. Now I shoot about once a month. I live in farm country so its not a problem to find a place to shoot. My cousin farm is just a quarter down the road and we have a 500 yard range set up there. Now days its so dag-gum expensive to do alot of shooting. I did order 3 pounds of pryo P and bought some RS and T7 marked down at Wal-Mart this year so I am gonna do more ML shooting this spring and summer hopefully.

I couldn't live anywhere that I couldn't just open a window and Shot:D, My 27 Yard front range has a bench that is attached to a 6x6 upper deck pole, so this bench is covered by a deck and roof, it is exactly 8' from my Basement/shop door. My 200 yard range in the back yard is just 30yards from the house. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many pounds of lead have been fired from my front and back decks.:D:) It is not uncomon to get together with family and friends and go threw several bricks of 22s, a small can of 38s and everything else right from my decks, If it is raining use the front covered deck, nice and sunny use the back deck. Both have targets in the woods at variouse distances from them.;);)

"Now days its so dag-gum expensive to do alot of shooting."

This is the very reason I cast my own Boolitz and have built a Smokeless ML. I havn't harvested a head of Game with a Condom wrapped bullet in over 15 yrs.

I buy primers in lots of 5000 from Pioneer Valley, All my powder comes from them also, yes even Pyrodex, BH209, My smokeless is all bought in 4, 5 and 8 pound canisters. Get some of your friends together for an order, that way you split the hazmat TAX. It is not uncommon for my family to place a 6 to 8 hundred dollar order once or twice a year.

I like to shoot at least twice a week, 20 to 30 rounds. I am fortunate to beable too shoot 100 yds out the back. In summer it probably is a tie between bow and muzzleloader. The bow might get a little more use in the summer.

I shot today and it was great. I had to get used to a few new things like T7 FFFg, and Sierra. 240gr..45 hollow points. Last shot was standing using the sling & a peep, 100yds & blew a gallon jug filled with water all to crap. :DGood Times!
