Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Bronko has been telling me for some time to try Pyrodex P in my .45 GM LRH barreled Renegade. Well,Friday afternoon I burned a lot of Pyrodex Pshooting 200 grain .40 caliber XTPs in H4540B sabots. I'd love to post thetargetswithfive-shot groups and velocity readings, but I left the darn things on the bunk in my campwhen I packed up to leave. So, I'll just have to post that report at another time.
In the meantime, I'll leave you with this touching thought. ![]() |

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
ORIGINAL: Semisane In the meantime, I'll leave you with this touching thought. ![]() I have pondered those wonderful thoughs myself, many, many times. Just said a different way. It has been my observation that most men are somewhere between here: 1 Corinthians 7:9(Whole Chapter) But if they cannot contain themselves, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn. [ol][/ol] and here: Malachi 2:15(Whole Chapter) And did not He make one? Yet had He the residue of the spirit. And why one? That He might seek a godly seed! Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. in their relationships with their wife/fairer sex, at least I was. "As for living with the psycho", the scripture says this: Proverbs 21:19 (Whole Chapter) It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. and this: Proverbs 27:15 (Whole Chapter) A continual dripping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. So there is a bit of truth in the picture and words, but there is ample evidenced that it is the woman who goes mad for lack of love and the man who has to leave for anger or bitterness--so it seems you wrote of the psycho of men, but it is really the other way around in my experience. However the bottom line that I have witnessed is this: Passage John 15:5: I am the vine;(A) you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that(B) bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. We all must seek God, because apart from him we cannot know love or live our life in harmony (with anyone). I say this because I've "been there done that" on both sides of the fence. I hope nobody considers this "preaching", it is not, it is just my observation on "life and love", and what I have experiencedand >>>what matters most in this world<<<. We all are Humpty Dumpty's broken in many ways and anyone that has lived with me for 25 years (my 2nd wife) is both a saint and knows howl am broken and still a "worken in progress". Only Christ can mend a broken heart or a broken life. As evidence of that, I ask, do you see many "Amish in dispair" (living alone in a one room shack), when they are old and physically broken down? Nope, the next generation is their social security, and the hope of the life to come as their eternal security. So Semi, I leave you those "touching"thoughts for you to ponder. Blessing in Christ who perfects our souls and makes use acceptable to the Father, cause we know who we are, Chap PS. Well Van - you could at least have told us if it was good or bad?!?!
As for the poster I have another old adage that relates: A woman marries a man thinking he will change and he doesn't - A man marries a woman hoping she won't change and she does. |

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Van - 3 1/2" with a renegade at 100 yds. That ain't bad. But just to show you that I wasn't blowing smoke (no pun intended), here is a target my open sighted Renegade 45 GM barrel shot. The top group is with 180 Gr Nosler .40s and 200 gr .40XTPs using 70 gr of Pyro P. Group size C-C is 1.3".
The group in the bull is also at 100 yds but with 80 gr of Pyro P and 200 gr .40 XTP. This groups is also 1.3" C-c if you throw out the 'flier' at 6 oclock in the bull. |
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Is your barrel stainless or blue? I see GMB has them on sale. I just bought a T/C Hawkins .50 caliber so one of them would fit and I don't have a .45 GMB.

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Mine is blue. It was one of those $99 specials.
|
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Dave, I just ordered the blued one in 15/16" in 45 for $95. (about $113 shipped)
They have the stainless for I believe $110. |
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Yes, I am not sure which one I want. I orders mounts for it as well so I can throw a scope on it. I was hoping it would be a good long range shooter.
|
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
If given a choice, I'd get the blued (hey I already did..;))
|
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
I have a stainless coming, should be here today, I have an Investarms hawken I want to put it on. I don't know how it will look with the brass hardware but we will see.
|
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
dphobby... that was my thoughts also. While the blue would look excellent, for the little extra, the stainless is nicer to maintain. So the question is do I want which one. Maybe I will wait until you get yours and then you can shoot a picture of it... :D

Little brown truck came !!! I have to cut off the under rib about 1/8" to fit the investarms stock but no big deal.
![]() ![]() ![]() A little hard to see with the reflections but you can get the idea :D:D:D |
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Dave - GM site has a stainless one on a Hawken. You might get an idea from that.
|
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
maybe I will get both.. then I don't have to decide. That stainless looks really sharp. I could put a scope on that and really see if a .45 can do some long range stuff.

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Know what would look really cool and I am thinking about it. Taking all the brass from a Hawken to a plating shop and having it either nickel plated and sand blasted or zinc plated and then putting a stainless barrel on it.
Call me old fashion, and no offense dp, but I think the blue and brass go better together. |
RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Bronco
Changing the brass out to zinc, dull nickel migth really enhance the looks - sertainly would provide a new look.. I put my stainless GM_LRH in a Renegade stock for that very reason. But I have to admit I am a plain jane type person... |

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Dave - I believe you are referring to the T/C Cougar. It was the same as the Hawken except nicer wood and a pewter like finish instead of brass. Also the patchbox was replace with a medallion with the T/C cougar. Really cool looking rifles. Wish I had one as well.

RE: Burning P? Me Too! But I Can't Talk About It.
Hey Gotbuck and Chap, it was a new experience for me. I've never had Pyrodex P ( PP ? )burning in my bore before. :D:D
