Knight TK2000 with Red Dot/Scope?
 

Hello all I have been considering a Red Dot or a scope on my TK2000 muzzleloader shotgun. I have never thought about using one before but have had several people suggest that they are great to use for turkey. It currently has the factory fiber optic sight and with the kick the gun has with 100 grains of power and 2 1/2 oz magnum shot, i wonder how effective the red dot/scope would be. What do you think?

I thought of doing the same thing with my TK2000. I just have to figure out what the bases are and order them. I have the RED DOT already from a different rifle. My RED DOT has one sight that is a dot with in a 5 moa circle. That should be good to 50 yards..

Iuse the open sites on mine and took a bird at 62 yards last year, just hold a little high. The kick is not so bad if you have the gun tight but give it some room and your shoulder will know it. Cayugad is right on in finding the right scope bases, you can contact Knight and they usually get back to you within a day.I asked them once about using a 69 cal roundball in the TK and they said no because of the jug-choke inside the bore not the one that screws on the outside will give it problems. They gave a fast response and information as to why and such. Wish I could find that. Will post ifI can.

The gun is awesome. It is amazing that you got the bird at 62 yards. My buddy got one at 55 yards and he told me to aim just a little high on him. I beleive I am going to get a red dot scope for it. The kick is pretty nasty if you are not ready for it. My shoulder was sore for a few days after shooting it 3 times.

In practice, I was rolling an olive can around the yard at 45 yards. And it would penetrate that can. I have one friend that lives to hunt turkey. He has a number of turkey guns. But he uses a Knight TK 2000 and claimed he can take them at 50 yards any time he wants. That was one reason I bought one.

The key to long range bird shooting is to pack it tight. My process is:

1. Pour loose charge (110gr Pyrodex) tap the gun a few times to seat the load.
2. Take a 3-1/2" long wad and ram it home on the powder tightly.
3. Take an empty wad and fill with #4 shot (in my case) and pour in the barrel.
4. Take an overshot card, I use the ones Ballistic products sells. It is thick but packs everything great. http://www.ballisticproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NC12

5. Load the primer, I use Remington 209 Kleenbores and they go off without a hitch.
6. Lots of practice for sure.I would have never taken that shot without practice.

When it goes off you can just tell that it will hit with authority and the kick is not really that bad if anchored properly.

I have not tried to load the card over the powder and the shot butI have a feeling it would have a tighter pattern. Cayugad may have tried it during his free time.
