BH209

Anybody know where in Canada (esp. Manitoba) where you can buy Blackhorn 209 powder? Also what products are needed to clean this after shooting in my M/L?

aaron - first off you did not mention what kind of rifle you intend to shoot the BlackHorn off in. Be sure your rifle is set up to handle the powder before you go all out looking for it. Some of the other sub powders will work just fine for you under the same circumstances.

But if you do need to clean it. Montana X-treme cowboy solvent will take it right out of the barrel. And then some Bore Conditioner will protect your rifle. Other good solvents are Hoppes, Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber, and some like that will also take the Black Horn out of the barrel.

We have a Cabelas, but they don't carry it for some reason, I am planning on shooting a Triumph, and will my rifle cleaning products work here too, I use Hoppes.

Hoppe's gun solvent will work just fine in removing the fouling left by BlackHorn 209. If the breech plug gets crusted, there are some that use different techniques to clean them. Perhaps they can elaborate.

Otherwise Triple Seven is a good powder in your rifle as well.

Leaves a bad crud ring and no follow up shot in the field. also hard to get the crud ring out, so I hear.

A simple spit patch can remove it. Carry some patches in your pocket. If you shoot get a patch moist and swab the bore with it. Just slow down and pay special attention to the breech area. That crud will come right out. I shoot Triple Seven all the time and normally I can get a follow up shot or two without patching.

Triple Seven is a powerful powder, cleans up with simple water, and is cost effective to shoot... that was all I was trying to point out.

Watch your breech plugs when shooting Black Horn 209. And you do have to clean your rifle ASAP after shooting BlackHorn 209. Your rifle can possibly under the right conditions rust.

They carry it on their website now. It's probably just a matter of time before it trickles down to each of the stores.
