RE: Off Topic--Mineral/Salt Lick

I throw out those natural mineral rocks every year. I've seen deer, bearand chipmunks licking them. So I guess they benefit more than just the deer.
After reading that article that Semisane posted, I may just go buy a bag of rock salt and pour it out in different spots in late spring and see what happens.

This is one I read about.
Clear a 6X6 foot area digging a hole out in the middle of it, putting 50 pounds of Stock Salt in it and covering it with a box of A&H Washing Soda, then cover it with a light covering of dirt.Pour a couple buckets of water over it to activate it.

Fellow says you have to do it every six months to keep it active.

I wonder what purpose the washing soda serves? Maybe it helps release the calcium and phosphorus from the soil.

1. Ok. What's the best Mineral Supplement for deer, health wise, antler development, for pregnant doe's etc.??

2. Do Mineral licks do more good, or do more harm to deer herds?
most of that stuff does not work.

deer licks sometimes work if you crush it on old stump near your feeder.

deer cocaine stuff is rip off.

I tried corn flavored blocks and acorn flavor also. The corn ones were a waste of $$$ but the acorn flavor, wow. They licked it, they pawed it to bits with their hooves and when it was gone they ate the dirt under it.
