Let's Go Off Topic
OK smokepole addics, things are getting a little slow on the forum. Maybe it would be OK to commit a small off-topic sin.
What cartridge rifles do you own? Mine are: Browning B-78 25-06 single shot falling block. Browning 1885 45-70 single shot falling block. Savage M40 .22 Hornet single shot bolt action. Remington Model 67 .22 Short/Long/Long Rifle single shot bolt action. NEF "Sportster" Model SS1 .22 WMR single shot break open. Winchester Model 1890 .22 Long pump action (with shot out barrel - this was my dad's gun, bought new when he was a teenager, got about 67 gazillion rounds through it). |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
I have a Ruger 10/22 in .22LR, a Remington XCR with Leupold VXL scope in 270wsm and a Remington 7600 in .308....thats it for rifles, the rest are shotguns...though I just bought my daughter her first gun today...she is going to be 4 and though early, I got her one anyway...a 22 crickett. she picked it out herself, of course she picked the pink one..LOL.

cayugad,
The Hipoint works well, it lacks the frilly looks of the expensive ones, but if kept clean, it works well. The gun has good fiber optic sights and I found that it shoots winchester well but jams on cci. Other than that, can't beat it for the money, and at some point, I would love to pick up another, perhaps in the caliber you are looking at. |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
Ruger, 10/22
Savage, 17 HMR Smith and Wesson 22, pistol 617, stainless Winchester 68-22 single shot (belongs to the wife) Too many shotguns to mention (around 15) |

BLASPHAMY I SAY. I knew it. I just knew it. The truth finally comes out. Semisane is secretely working undercover for Obama. He just wants to know how many guns you have so he can get them all confiscated.
I'll just tell you I have a bunch. From the tiny 22 lr to the 45-70 and many calibers in between. My favorites however are the oldies. My 45-70 and my 405 Win. I'll gladly give them up. Bullets first of course. |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
Since you can't deer hunt in Illinois with a center fire "yet" the only one I own is a Winchester post 1964 30-30 lever action. I wouldn't have it if it wasn't for getting it in a group of firearms from my uncles estate.
other thanthat I have; Remington 597 17HMR with a wooden laminate stock Remington Speedmaster 552 .22 wooden stock Old Marlin 39A Golden lever action .22. More shotguns from .410 on up to 12 gauge than anything else plus a couple of handguns. Some day just for the fun of it I'd like to get a .243. 22-250, or a .223 just for giggles and grins. |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
Can't wait to see Cayugad's list! my list of none muzzleloaders is not very impressive anymore... I have gave a lot of them away and sold some. I am thinking of selling the others since I never use them much. RE: Let's Go Off Topic
How do you guys like the 7mm mag? I am thinking of getting one in a Ruger #1. How is the recoil, is it similar to a 30-06?
Thanks. |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
If you can handle a 06 then the 7mag will be no problem. I love mine, had it for 20 years and still use it alot. What else can i say.

RE: Let's Go Off Topic
I've got one centerfire rifle, a .243 M-77 Ruger that I bought in 1980...It's been updated with a Leupold
3x9x40 VX-II and the reticle has been changed to a Heavy Duplex...The trigger has been adjusted to 2 1/2 pounds, it had the action bedded, barrel free floated and replaced with a 24 inch Shilen... In .22s...I have a Remington 541-T with a 3x9x33 Compact VX-II...A Remington 552 that I bought new in 1971 and a Ruger MK-II... Shotguns...A .410 that I received in the 60s for Christmas, I think I was 8 at the time...A double barrel 12 gauge that I received when I was 12...A Remington 1100 deer shotgun and a Browning B-80... I also have a Glock in .40 caliber that I use for concealed carry and a Ruger .357 Blackhawk... In muzzleloaders I have a Knight Disc, a .40 caliber flintllock I bought in 1977 from Bob Watts and a .54 flintlock I made in the 80s... The funny thing is...Except for the flintlock that I made...The two that I value most are the oldest... The Remington 552 and the 12 gauge double were used from the time I was 12 until 20 or so...I have killed a truck load of squirrels and a few deer with the .22...The 12 gauge has the blueing worn off the receiver and was used on deer, squirrels, ducks, rabbits, doves, geese and crows... These were the guns that I'd grab after school or Saturday morning after alll the chores were done, head out the back door and just go hunting for whatever was in season... |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
I'm not inclined toannounce the contents of my toy box to the world, but I will mention one that is probably my favorite. I've got an M1 Garand that I really enjoy shooting. I got it a few years ago from the CMP. It's a Springfield, Feb 1942 manufacture date (rebarreled ~1952, I think). It was part of a batch that were loaned to the Danes decades ago and were returned and sold off. I love the peep sight on it and I can shoot as tight a group with it at 100yds as I can with my model 70 .270 with a scope (oops, I mentioned another one). After being packed in cosmoline for years the stock will weep a little bit here and there when I have it out on a hot day (you can never get all of that out). It oozes with history.

I've got an M1 Garand that I really enjoy shooting. I got it a few years ago from the CMP. The funny thing is, everytime I buy a new gun I think "OK, now I have all the guns I want..." Then I see something like a Garand or a Ruger #1 and the eyes glaze over and the obsession starts again... |
RE: Let's Go Off Topic
I had a Winchester model 70 Black Shadow, in 7mm Mag and I hated it. It kicked more than the 300 my buddy had. I think maybe it was the gun..weight or something. So then I got the 270 WSM and I love that. I am not sure I would buy a 7mm again....
