Pink Teflon Tape for Breechplugs

I have a question, in a past Forum there was talk of using (Pink Teflon Tape) on the Breechplug. I have in the past only used TC T17 Breechplug Grease but want to try the Pink Teflon Tape for a better seal.So I went to the local stores. Wal-Mart, Value Home Centers, Home Depot, and asked for it and they all looked at me like Im crazy! They all had the (white Teflon tape) but no Pink. Is it the same? I did'nt think it was, I figured the white would melt, where can I get some?

Won't, or I should say shouldn't melt. From what I found, the color represents the thickness of the tape. I tried pink and white and find the white works the best for me on my CVA Wolf and Knight KRB7 breech plugs. I believe there is a yellow but I haven't seen any. Best bet to find them might be at a Ace orDo It Best type hardware store or I think I found the pink at a Rural King (farm supply store). Another farm supply store we have in my area is a Farm & Fleet and some TSC Stores(Tractor Supply Store). Good luck.

the pink is just a little thicker. I use the white and then double wrap it. It will not melt. It will glob together when you remove the plug and then you can pick it out and pull it offin a longer stringer. The pink holds together better. I have not been able to find the pink in my area either.

I'll do a little more searching for the pink and see what happens. I have enough white around here as we have a well for water and every now and then I have to re-prime the pump so it's always on hand. I just figured the pink was something different, a better quality for a different pourpose than the white. Thank's, Ron

The tape colors are for different uses, the white forgeneraluse, the yellow is for pipes that carry gases
such as natural gas, propane and so on.I forget the use of the pink one.

http://www.homeandbeyond.com/prod-0080477.html Try coupon code GREEN5 or Cabin10.

The white is waterline tape for smaller pipes (forget the recommended size limit), the pink is for larger pipes, the yellow is for gas lines. Thickness will vary from one manufacturer to the next but Oatey seems to make a good, consistent product.

The color coding on the tef tapes indicates its thickness, and not all tape is of the same quality. As UC suggested Oatley is one of the better brands.

One thing you need to detirmine is what thickness of tape do you need to mate your breech plug to your barrel. I have all three tapes but have yet to find a BP that I would use the yellow on - it is really thick. When you tape the plug - tape from the muzzle end back to the breech (make sure that you overwrap the nose of the BP) andmake sure that you are turning the tape in the correct direction. Then when the tape is on the plug - 'seat' the tape on the nose andturn the BP in your fingers and gently press the tape down into the threads. Now, when you start threading the BP into the barrel it should turn in very smoothly with only a SLIGHT' bit more torgue than if it had no tape. Your goal is to get the tape to go in with out tearing -pulling - or balling up - a smooth application. The thickness of the tape will detirmine how this whole process works.

I use one wrap ofpink in two different rifles and one wrap of white in 3 other inlines... find the right tape for the right gun.

I had a really tough assignment Friday - Sat & Sunday.... I had to drive over to Kennewick and play with the grandkids (3 girls)... I was suppose to be baby sitting but I tend to elvate to the level of the kids....BUT - the youngest (16 months) has way to much energy... here batteries seem to recharge with play rather than run down. Now I am back home in Idaho - paying bills and re-gaining energy....

I did see the pics- I like black on black - so that puts camo on camo - wish you had some como rings though.

You could try a store that sells plumbing supplies like Lowes or Home Depot. Personally, I don't use anything on the BP. Grease is too messy and I haven't found a need for tape as my breech plug comes out super easy when I'm done firing.

A good Grandad is a Grandkid's best friend, enjoy them. I dont have any, I do have a Daughter but she say's she's never having kid's :( she's set on being a career women for now I guess, hopefully some day she'll change her mind befor I get too old to enjoy em. As for the ML's, I dont see too many camo rings around, and the ACCURA's have a slightly bigger base screw than most ML's so finding one's that fit are a problem. Well the wood pile is calling me again, burned a-lot of wood the last few weeks, so I better get out there. We heat only with wood, I do have gas but we use it just for the stove and hotwater tank. I hate the Gas Company, especially here in the Northeast, they got you buy the @&%*'s with the price's. Anyway the extra money we save get's put to a good use, like more ML stuff! Catch Ya Later...........Ron

The most common tape is white (the natural color of PTFE) color tape is not materially different, only used to color code pipe lines, however, there are different grades.

Tear off about a foot of white and wrap it the opposite direction of the threads. Overlap both ends slightly and your good to go.

I Looked everywhere, Wal-Mart, Home De-Pot. Value, Tractor Supply, our hometown plumbing stores, NO Pink anywhere. I gave up and bought the most expensive (White) and now I dont have to get them funny looks anymore when I ask for the PINK! BP

In Home Depot it is not with the normal plumbing supplies got go over into the gas line supplies - in fact the last time i bought some from them i had to "where is it?'

Mike, I asked em at Home Depot and they asked a few of the guys that worked there and they all said no, they dont carry it. But next time I go by I'll stop in again and go to the gas line supplies and then ask and see what happens. I also have a friend who is a plumber, and he does gas lines also, so I'll check with him, he likes to think he knows everything and pretty much he does, about plumbing anyways.
