Well, I guess it'll be a push, either one will work. Well, I'm not French, live in NC, born and raised. We drink stumphole, it's crappy, and I say sabbit.
A fellow co-worker and myself were discussing the pronunciation and I say sabbit and he says sahbow. In fun, I told him I could get some opinions from seasoned experts, thanks for the input y'all.

Lot's of French down here in Louisiana so sa-bow is common. But Ihear sa-bit most of the time from the guys in my hunting club.
And down this-a-way acrappie is a Sacalait (sock-a-lay). It means sack of milk.
