Sabot - Well between you and Dave, you've are real close to convincing me on this MX stuff. I'm hoping you or Dave try it with BP to see how it performs.

I have some BP but it is on a very rare occasion - that i shoot it - but I am sure Dave will. There is a gentleman in the Dakotas that has been doing some testing for MX with reall BP and has not had a problem. I THINK but not sure that Dave mentioned that.

This MX thing is new for me also, up to this time I have been using a combination of T17 patches and 'Slip 2000' (a military synthetic bore oil) but the 'Slip' is really a heavy body oil. I am thinking this MX being almost a thin as water might be working better. Time will tell.

Mike what do you think about the new 325 gr Flex tip from Hornady for elk and bear? The BC is .230 and the sectional density is decent. Lee

To be honest with you, and remember you can shoot better than I, I am not real interested in a long range pointy bullet.

I have done veryresearch onthosebullets - so I am not the best judge...

The Noslers seem to reach out and touch everything I point at.

So what does that say about the 300 Gold Dot with a BC of .233??

Heck guys, I go away for a few days and come back to fine Semi statements all over the place. Hey Cayugad, it was semi-cold Friday night at the camp. Got down to 42 I think. Berrrr!

That's a "Doublenot" group Sabotloader - not bad enough to worryyou and not quite good enough to satisfy you. As for me, 2 1/4" ten shot group at 100 yards is OK. Itwould be a bragging group for a few of the guys in my hunting club.

Hi Mike, I asked this to you in another forum, so If you answer here this is fine. I have comming the MX BC and the Montana X Gun Oil, do I need to follow up with the MX gun oil in the barrel after the MX BC, or is the MX BC all that is needed? Thank's, Ron

I thought about that too, its one of the reasons I have not ordered any of the 325 gr yet. The 300gr Gold Dot not only has much the same BC the fact that its 25 gr lighter will make at least a small difference in velocity.
I did order a 100 of the 300 gr if there structure is as advertised [and Hornady is one of the more reliable companies] and they are as accurate as the SW I am hoping that they will give a bit more expansion and still get plenty of penetration. I am a little concerned about some people have a problem with the new SW, I have a hundred or so of the old ones but I heard they quit making them. Lee

It is my understanding.... the Gun oil is to be used on the trigger groups, actions, and moving parts.

It is also my understanding and the way I am approaching it at this point the Bore conditiner is a stand alone product in the bore. It is also my understanding that if you feel that you need more protection adding the thicker oil on top of the thin BC oil will work just fine, but before shooting dry swab the bore, which I do anyway and it is suppose tho be the norm for the use of the conditioner. It was explained to me that the BC will go places in the bore that the oil can not reach.

THE KEY.... The bore should be really clean and dry. If it is not clean the BC over time will leach out the contamiates out. Again I think that is why MX recommends at least multiple treatments before you are feeling the totally effects of the BC.

With all of that said.... When I BC in a gun that I am going to use in the near future I run a moist patch several strokes both sides.... When I treat a gun that is going to be stored for months - I will run a damp to wet patch in the bore several strokes both sides...

And remember this is all new to me also - so what I do may not be what you might want to do...

And those thoughts and the possible numbers were my thoughts also... + the fact that I know that the Gold Dot will stay together (bonded)... the lead will not go one direction and the copper another. I THINK i saw multiple ogrives(sp) around the bullets which might aid in keeping the Hornady together - I think they call it 'interlock'

Are not these new Hornady bullet a 'flex tip'??? Well I guess they must be if thay are labeled FTX's... But I think you are referring to the post over on MM by Grouse and others that the flex tip SST and not near as good as the older solid tips....

Now that I think of it I have some and have shot some... I bought a couple boxes for my model 94 30-30 - flex tipped bullets to keep from setting the next one on the tube off. They shot really well from the old 94 and they worked well on paper but i have not shot anything else including an animal with them...
