Working with fiberglass
Greetings all. I am going to attempt making a fiberglass ramrod. I have never worked with fiberglass before. I anticipate having to cut the rod and do some sanding.
Is there anything in the way of safety equipment I should be thinking of, eg: a face mask for fiberglass dust? Inormally use eye protection when using the saws. Nothing fancy, just cheap plastic thing people normally wear. Do I need anything more elaborate than that? Hopefully this will not require a hazmat suit. After all, its not as though I am changing a light bulb! ;) Thanks, ~Robert |

Cayugad:
I would prefer to buy one. But I have yet tofind a fiberglass ramrod that will fit this particular gun; a Pedersoli "Mortimer" 12 guage shotgun (fowler actually). So I have resigned myself to just making one. ~Robert |
RE: Working with fiberglass
Eye and lung protection and you should be fine. I have never specifically heard of mesothelioma (type of lung cancer associated with asbestos) being a concern with fiberglass, but the similarity in the fibers has always made me stay on the safe side when working with it.

If you have a Tractor Supply in your area, they have the rod in 3'&4' length and different dia.

ORIGINAL: RobertSubnet wal-mart had them on sale, you only need to cut it to length. I'll have another look though. last week they had sale and everything just about went at our local store. some wal-marts dont carry much gun stuff, others do. they can haveone shipped to your store from another store,i dont know how it works. salesman told me they could do that. i bought a T/C rod there also, it was like 8 dollars off price. roundballs were 9 dollars a box, powerbelts for 20 were 12.99,bought 3 paks of those. went back 2 days later, everything almost gone. |
RE: Working with fiberglass
Ive heard others say there are places online you can order ramrods cut to length, hopefully the will chime in on where it was........... try a search on old posts also..
