other Mtn rifle stock is almost finished
i spent a couple hours today working on the older style cva mountain rifle stock that the 58 barrel will be mounted on. I have a little more touching up to do before i order the stain. I hit the stock with 2000 grit sand paper and i swear it looked like i had just rubbed tru oil into the stock. Ive never had wood come alive like that before.
i still have to bleach the wood and steel wool it, but do you think the 2000 grit finish will cause any problems with the stain soaking in? I plan on using Aquafortis with maybe some honey maple mixed in afterwards. |

Sure, Here are some samples. I had some BC walnut stain on it before and it helped show the curl better. Hopefully the Aquafortis will really bring it out. I was also told to use Lye instead of aquafortis so i will get more info on that.
![]() ![]() ![]() Still have to finish up that one small part. Throat is hurting from breathing it the dust so i am going to call it quits for the night :D Rather have the sore throat than the nose bleeds i get when working with Beech.Must be allergic to that wood. ![]() This shows a lot of curl, ![]() |
