Guys - I know a couple of you have used this product with good results. I want to try it in my genesis. Question is, what all do I need to get to prep the bore prior to applying it? All my ML get the hot soapy waterwash and hot water rinse and bore butter. I guess I will have to remove the bore butter, but what should I use? Just hot water and alcohol patches?
Will I need and special bore preparation from Montana prior to applying the Extreme?

First off you have to get that bore butter out of that rifle. I would take the barrel off and set that rifle outside and pour boiling water through it until you melt all that wax and it is rinsed out of the bore. Then IMO never allow that stuff near your rifle again.

After you have the bore butter out, you need to take a strong solvent and a brush and scrub that bore spotless. Then some solvent patches as well. I use Hoppies #9. After I got that bore spotless clean, I dry patch it.

Then apply some of the Montana X-treme Bore Conditioner on a patch and swab that bore good and then let it sit.

When you are ready to shoot.. take a dry patch with nothing on it, and swab the bore then go shoot.

I am new to all of this too. I am not sure how you are supposed to use the Bore Oil, etc.. and Montana X-treme has never answered my questions on how to use their products.

Dave - from reeading their site, it seems that the bore conditioner is a highly purified oil so the bore oil I don't think would be necessary. Another concern I have is will other solvents like Hoppe's deteriorate the X-treme bore conditioner? Should you also use the Montana X-treme bore solvent? I was wondering what would be the best way to remove the BB. I was also thinking the hot water rinse and dry patches+ alcohol patches.
(ps: I know you don't like BB)

This is my limited experiance with Montana X-Treme Bore conditioner.

The real key as far as I can tell is that the bore should be spic-and-span clean or as Semi says - 'Squeakly Clean' before you apply MX

If you choose to do the 'hot soapy water treatment' to your bore that will work just fine - just make sure the bore is completely dry before you move to the next step. I have a compressor so I am able to blow the barrel out and dry it out - if I didn't then the 90% alcohol thing would be my next step with dry patches following. When the barrel is cleaned and dry and even warm apply the X-Treme. It does not take much one moist (not damp) patch ran up and down in the bore several times both sides.

Do not use the bore butter step... in fact remove it from your bore. The easiest way is is the hot water/soap (dish soap - I use Zep Citrus cleaner/degreaser - the important thing is the degreaser part) followed with a rinse of boiling water to remove it from the pores and from behind the lands. Then alcohol and dry. 99% of everything should be gone. But get it dry.

The last 3 times I have shot the Knight - I have changed up routines. When I am done shooting at the range I run windex patchesuntil they come out pretty clean. Then dry patches to dry the bore. When I get home and get around tocleaning the gun - I run windex patches again until they come out clean. I then run a couple of wet patches of Hoppes #9 and let that work in the bore while I remove the BP and clean it up (gives time for the #9 to do its thing). When the BP is cleaned I put it back in (no grease - no tape) then continue to work the bore until it is cleanand dry. I do run a couple of dry patches also. At this point I start cleaning the other parts... reciever, trigger assembly, and bolt. When all of that is done I remove the BP tape it put it back in assemble the rifle then run the X-Treme patches and put the gun away.

Notice I do not use any oil in the bore - other than the #9 and the X-Treme. The question was asked will the X-Treme protect the bore in long storage - at this point I am still testing that - but if the bore is clean and the X-Treme applied evenly - I beleive it will. I have treated all 7 Renegade barrels (September) and stood them up in the spare bedroom - no cover no protection from the air - at this point they are perfect - I drop a bore light in them and its like you could shave using the bore as a mirror.

Just my experiance - so far - hope this makes some sense. Just finished the Knight and it will probably not be touched again until May...

The shooting session the other day with the Knightproved tohavevery good results for me.

Well I have it in a couple of my inline rifles. And when I swab them I will not use any alcohol products. Only Windex. And then dry patch it. BUT sabotloader said he just uses a very lighty misted Windex patch.

So whats this montana X supposed to do. protect the metal, reduce fouling or what.

All of that they claim. Time will tell.
