T/C Hawkens - Which Powder???

T/C Hawkens - sidelock/50 cal. Which powder do you guys prefer. Pyrodex RS or 777 2F. Out of these these two which one do you like best in you traditional sidelocks.

They both will work fine, but I like the Pyrdoex RS the best of the two. Normally 90 grains and a patched roundball is a good hunting load.

The best choices are black and pyrodex and I shoot pyrodex RS because black is hard to get around here. I dont like 777 with a # 11 caps it was ok when I could still get Hi score and RWS cap but to many slight hang fires with the caps that are available to me now. Lee

SHulion

We have gone to T7-3f to insure that we can get powder out under the nipple.

During warmer months the 2f works fine but when it gets to 0 or freezing the 3f works a lot better.

I use 95 grains of goex 3F under a 54 cal wad followed with a Hornady RB and patch .018 in my t/c flinter 50 cal.

I've never used Triple 7, but I know Pyrodex RS will work fine. You could use P grade too, but adjust the charge accordingly.
