Finally dropped the hammer yesterday
Yep - Finally dropped the hammer yesterday. Too bad it wasn't on a deer but well satisfied. Had my FL loaded since Christmas day. Hunting for 9 days, sometimes all day sometimes morning and evening hunts. Rifle was out in the cold, then inside in the evenings. I always put a piece of paper towel between the flint and frizzen when I emptied the pan.
After I was done hunting yesterday morning I decided it was time to empty the charge. Picked out a knot about 2" in diameter in a big old dead oak tree about 40 yds away. Got on one knee and squeezed the trigger and dang if I didn't drillthat knot. Not dead center but I still hit it.
Only problem is, I had a heck of a time trying to field dress it and boy was it tough eating.......
I'll be out Saturday with a fresh charge.

Semi - at my point in life I just like being out there. If I'm lucky enough to get a clean shot, I might take it. I just hope I am around by the time my grandson is able to hunt. I take him out now on preseason scoutingtrips and he is really interested. I show him all kinds of tracks, deer rubs and scrapes. We even found a bear sign post this fall. He's always picking up turkey feathers and taking them home.

Sometimes you've got to give up on the "getting" and settle for enjoying the "doing".

Never a truer statement.
