new muzzleloader for x-mas

2 weeks ago i ordered a remington genesis blued barrel and camo stock. $145 through cabelas. $35 mail in rebate. it was back ordered 4-5 weeks which kind of bummed me out. saturday i logged onto cabelas to check my order status. nothing changed so i started checking out the other muzzleloaders. this is what i found. $200 with $35 mail in rebate. it goes with out saying i ordered it immediately and cancelled my other order.

Very nice! You should have gotten it for even less than that considering their $30 off any orders over $150 deal.

This is the one my wife is getting me for Christmas... Remington Genesis Buckmasters Edition

Shaggy I did the same thing on Saturday I was also concerned that due to the backorder on the others we might not get them in time to take advantage of the rebate. The other Genesis as you know was in stock and a real value as well. Did you also take advantage of Cabelas $30.00 back on a $150.00 order? The two combined gave you $65.00 off. [&:]

HAHA! I meant pictures of your actual rifle. So we can see what the finish looks like. I've been told that the finish is a little different than that in the pic you posted.

Interseting note on the laminate one. I ordered one of them last week at a price of $279. It arrived on Thur if I recall. Sat they dropped the price to the current $199. I called them this morning and asked if they would give me the difference since I just ordered it a few days prior to them dropping the price. She said "Sure, we can do that.Thatwasjust bad timing on your part." She's now sending me a gift card for the difference. That's dandy customer service in my opinion!

I am wondering if you have ever used a thumb hole stock much. There are two notable things about them, most [ there are exceptions to any thing like this] people can actually shoot noticeably better off hand with one and they are a bit more awkward in the field since you can not conveniently carry the over your forearm. I have shot thumbhole stock rifles but do not own one... Actually they do not appeal to me. But I am sure I could get to like them. I handled a Optima the other day with a thumbhole stock and it felt kind of strange. But I could have got used to it if they dropped the price a little..

Is the reciever made of a composite or is it metal?
Wonder why it's not stainless as well?

Nice looking rifles and the prices are great

The receiver is metal. Not sure what though.

Yup, and it's got one of those dangerous Spanish barrels.... Even though I've never heard of one blowing up.....

BARRELS BLOWING UP!!!!!!!!. please tell methat's not true. i am VERY new to muzzleloaders, a barrel blowing up in my face would really turn me off to muzzleloading.

ps. i don't have any decent pictures of the actual gun yet. i can't seem to find the camera. i think my wife has it at work.

cayugad 12-18-2008 08:38 AM

RE: new muzzleloader for x-mas

The Genesis is under the Remington name, imported through Traditions. So technicallyyes it is a Traditions. As for the barrel blowing up.. I would not get too excited. Granted every time we load these rifles, we are technically making a pipe bomb that will fail (we hope). That's why you never plug the end of your barrel with anythingbecause then they do not fail. Load the rifle according to manufacturer's recommendations and with common sense and you will be fine.

The receiver is some sort of lighter alloy - probably (hopefully) has a lot of aluminum in it. The finish on the receiver is horrible. Looks nice when shiny new. Looks terrible after it suffers wear and scratches. Black Ice or Duracoat would probably/maybe work well on it. :D

Cayugad works for Cabelas under the radar:D Heck he could retire on the commissions from the Genesis alone.
