Final Cleaning Question
 

I'm new to inlines and have what is most liklely a very dumb question. But I'm a little confused. I shoot a TC Omega with 777 pellets, 250 grain shockwaves,and Winchester Triple 7 primers. For the final cleaning of the season, the TC DVD states that I should run 4 patches with TC 13 Bore Cleaner followed by a dry patch, then Bore Butter.

The owners manual states clean from the breech with very hot soapy water, then dry, and oil. This is what I do with the Renegade but I shoot black powder in that.

What should I be doing for the final cleaning of the season?

Do yourself a favor.. throw the bore butter away. Use a quality gun oil like Rem Oil, Break Free CLP, Birchwood Casey Barricade (my favorite), and swab the bore with that. That will protect the rifle from rusting.

2nd that advice...I've been using Knight's "Knight Oil" with rust inhibitor for a few years now and it works great...no rust on any of the muzzleloaders I've shot.

Hey Cayugad, I have another question for you. I used Hopps #9 gun oil when I was done cleaning mine. Is that a good thing to use?

I haven't had to clean my ML yet, but I'll give my $0.02 based on experience cleaning other weapons. I'd do the water thing like you stated and then dry. After that, use either a bore cleaner like Remington 40X or a bore brush with some RemOil on it. Then swab the bore until the patches come out clean. Then run either a pre-saturated lube patch like Remington Express Lube or a patch with some RemOil on it down the bore. That's it for the bore.

As for the rest of the gun... I'd use some kind of action spray on the trigger and other hard to reach areas. It'll blast out any left over oil that has collected any kind of dust/gunk. Once it has evaporated, mist it with RemOil from an aerosol can. Spray a clean rag with the same aerosol RemOil and wipe down all the external metal.

Soak the breech plug in some kind of solvent like Remington Express Clean Parts Bath. Scrub it with a tooth brush and then re-soak to wash it off. Wipe it off and let it dry. Apply some breech plug grease to the threads and reinstall.

That should do it.

When I was shooting BlackHorn 209 I used Hoppe's and Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber to clean the rifle. After I patched it dry, then I used Birchwood Casey Sheath to protect the rifle.

Lot's of different opinions about the bore butter so I used the when in doubt,leave it out approach and don't use it anymore.
I sent it all to a guy I know who uses it as a bullet lube.
With the BH 209 I use Hoppe's#9 and oil patch,with other powders I am usinf the TC presaturated cleaning patches.
I do the hot soapy water deal and swab dry then rem oil.I soak and super lclean my BP,lube the inside threads and the BP threads and put it ih hand tight,the put a cover over the bore.
I take the stock and forend off (TC Encore) and wipe the gun down then use an oiled cloth,I take off the scope and bases and rings (after the season)to check for rust under them and wipe them with oil as well as the threads on the boltsand put it back together.
