RE: 50 cal. thompson center
chuckell.. that's an open question. If you want to shoot roundball and the barrel is 1-48 try 90 grains and a patched ball. If you want to shoot conicals then you might want to lower that a little and start at 70 grains.
All rifles are different. Granted they are close to how they shoot, but to say.. this many grains and this bullet will shoot well.. is impossible. But those should be good starting points. |

RE: 50 cal. thompson center
As stated, depends a bunch on your barrel's rate of twist
My Pennsylvania Hunter with 1-66" twist, 32" barrel really likes this load: .490" round ball .015" patch lubed w/bore butter 80 grains Goex FFFg 1/2 pan Goex FFFg prime Missouri Longtrekker (Rich Pierce) 5/8" flint |

ORIGINAL: chuckell the load i'm looking for is for t/c-50.cal ,flintlock -26"barrel,1-48 twist barrel, stay away from the t/c maxi-balls.;) for practice i use patch/ball and around 60 grs of powder 2f in my hawkins 1-48 twist.4f in pan no use in wasting powder to have fun. for hunting with round ball , try 70 grs to start and work up,if the groups open up, you gone to far. now, for hunting i like the 295 powerbelt bullet hollow one. 348 gr is good too. i use around 80 grs of 2f. i sight my gun in at 13 yards with open sights dead on,some put it 1 inch high at 13 yards.put the top of sight just at bottom edge of your little round dot you are aiming at on WHITE PAPER. I USE A BLACK DOT. this will help you sight in better and this is way you want to hold on deer as sights can cover a deer at 100 yds. thats about it. |
