sabots

I have muzzleloaded for manyyears, I started when i was 16 and hunted the first ml season they started here in Arkansas with a TC hawken which i still own. I see a lot of people in here talking about different sabots like crushed rib and so on. I just use the sabots that come with the bullets that i buy for my rifles. My question is do they make that much difference? I know muzzleloaders can be finicky at times, but I have never spent the time to try different sabots. Usually i dont have that much problem getting them to shoot acceptable groups for me. I was just wondering.

Yes by changing sabots, it can increase your accuracy. It can also make it work. If you have something that works then you might want to keep that. Of course it does not hurt to play and try different things.

Tightness of sabot is critical to accuracy, if you get "blow by" with loose sabots then the bullet is less accurate. 150 g this is critical. lower charges less critical. I have bought 1 package of every kind of sabot made, why because some of them will make the difference in a bullet in a given gun. I do this primarily for friends. I like crushed rib sabots because they are cheaper than MMP and they are stronger in my opinion and easier to load. This picture says it all.
