RE: how many shots
Hurley - black powder and its substitutes are measured by volume not weight. Buy yourself an adjustable powder measure so you can measure your charges.
Some of the guys in here measure a volumetric charge in their powder measure, then weigh this charge on a reloading scale. They then use this weight to weigh out a number of charges to take to the range. They do this for consistancy.
I normally just use the measure by volume. I have a flask with different screw in spouts from 70 to 100 grains.

BP, pyrodex, 777 and all PB substitutes must be measured by volume. Get a volume powder measure at any place that carried ML supplies. Get a flask too. Pour from the bottle to the flask, and the flask will have a nice narrow spout to fill the measure. Fill it to whatever setting you want, tap it a few times to settle the powder, and top it off. The measure will have a small funnel attached to level off the powder at the top of the measure and pour down your barrel.
Never pour directly from the flask!!!!!!!

T/C sells an excellent 50-120 grain see through powder measure with a cut off pour spout on the top. Set the measure to the amount of powder you shoot.. lets say 100 grains, and it will by volume pour you a 100 grain measure of powder. Turn the spout on the top over and it will cut the charge level (you might spill a little which is no big deal) and then pour from the powder measure into your carry containers or directly into the muzzle of the rifle. After that, load as normal.
Never pour from the jug or horn into the rifle like you see on the old Daniel Boone movies.. too dangerous and were they measuring?

In my adjustable brass powder measure, 100 grains volume of T7 FFG weighs 77.7 grains, which gives you 90shots per pound with 100 grain volume loads. 100 grains volume of FFFG weighs 87.0 grains, which gives you 80 shots per pound with 100 grain volume loads.
