Gave In To Temptation
I could place the blame on Dave with all those great groups he got with the Remington Genesis or I could just tell the truth and say I gave in to the temptation of Cabelas sale on the blued rifle with the camo stock and who could say no to that twenty dollars off on a hundred dollar order or more. To top that off a thirty five dollar rebate from Remington. My flesh gave in and I placed the order this morning now for the back order wait which may take two weeks. [X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(]

With all the money you save on the gun, you can buy some FPBs. They shoot great in my Genesis.

RE: Gave In To Temptation
Hey WVM,
I too gave into the same temptation. Seemed like a deal too good to pass up. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
I could be to blame? Well you got a great rifle. Nothing to feel bad about. Semisane wants one also, but is too stuborn to get one along with a jug of blackhorn powder.. so I have to work on someone. You got a great rifle, I am sure it is going to give you years of pleasure. Just pay attention to them allen head bolts on the bottom and make sure they go back in the same hole they came out of. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
Thanks for the tip. I'd like it to be my longer range gun.
Hey Semisane... If you have a Cabelas' card, they are offering $30 off purchases between $100 and $199. This along with the rebate is almost a steal. If you don't have a card and sign-up for one, I believe you can get another $20 off. You could also buy the gun, powder and a few accessories totaling $199 and not pay for it until next December. No, I don't work for Cabelas ;) |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
Thanks Gobbler. I do have a Cabala's card and thought about that deal for a little while. I probably ought to get one just because of the price, but they just don't tickle my fancy. Still going to check out the after Christmas price on the X7 though. Other than the Mustang, the X7 is the only in-line that makes me smile.

RE: Gave In To Temptation
That's a really tempting deal. Do you have to pay a ffl fee and have it shipped to a ffl dealer or how does that work? What's the total cost of the gun in the end? Any links to the Remington rebate?

ORIGINAL: hometheaterman That's a really tempting deal. Do you have to pay a ffl fee and have it shipped to a ffl dealer or how does that work? What's the total cost of the gun in the end? Any links to the Remington rebate? The total cost is the gun + shipping + taxes where applicable. You go to Remington.Com and download a form. With that form and your gun you mail them the receipt, the end of the box, and answer all their questions. They in turn will mail you a check for $35.00 so you have to wait for that rebate. How long, I do not know. I don't have mine back yet. I have no idea how to get the money back from Cabela's. I did have a twenty dollar off coupon, so I actually got $55.00 off the cost of the rifle (once the rebate gets here). |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
I'm from VA if that matters as to if I can have it shipped to my door. I don't see any restrictions on Cabela's site for my sate. Anywhere else I should check?
I'm very very tempted to order this. I don't really need another muzzle loader but this deal is almost too good to pass up. One last question. Is this thing tapped for scope mounts? Basically I'm wondering if all I will have to do is buy scope mounts, rings, and scope? Any suggestions for mounts and rings? I have a spare Leupold VX-1 3x9x40mm scope I'd probably stick on here if I got it. BTW What kind of groups are you getting with yours? Is the blued barrel hard to keep from rusting? My only other bp gun has a stainless steel barrel. |

The Yukon parts all fit the Genesis. ![]() I have a 1x32mm scope on mine. And that load is a good shooting load. As for a blue barrel rifle.. clean them and keep them oiled. They do not rust. I have rifles that are over 30 years old and there is no rust on them. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
Hometheaterman the gun will ship via ups directly to my front door here in WV no restrictions. Yes the gun is drilled and taped for scope mounts and I have a set of cva universal scope mounts that I hope will fit it. After
all the rebates the gun will cost me $112.42 which in my opinion is a real deal. Dave and some others on this forum who purchased this rifle got excellent groups with it. This will be my fourth muzzleloader and they are addictive so give in to the temptation and go for it. [&:]WV Mountaineer |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
This is my first post on hunting.net. You guys seem like a good bunch of guys!
I gave into temptation as well, but on a different gun. I just picked up a TC Omega w/ camo thumbhole stock, in the weathershield finish for $299. I hate to admit it, but I bought it at Dicks sporting goods. I was looking at the Triumph, but this was a great deal and the thumbhole stock really fits nice. I put the Triumph up after this one and it just didn't feel as nice. Quote to live by: "Once it makes it to the safe I have owned that gun forever honey." |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
Welcome to the forum Rut N Strut and congrats on the new gun. All the guys on here are the greatest.

Welcome to the forum Rut n Strut. You picked a great rifle. There are a lot of Omega shooters. I also agree that between the Omega and the Triumph, I would have taken the Omega as well..

RE: Gave In To Temptation
Any other sources for bases that you guys know will fit? Also for the rings I know a lot of guys on here hate them or at least in the other forums but I'm really wanting a set of see through mounts. Are they just a horrible idea? I'm wanting to mount a Leupold VX-I 3x9x40mm scope I have on it. Any links to the rings and mounts I should get? I'm getting ready to check out Traditions page now. How much should I expect the rings and mounts to set me back?

RE: Gave In To Temptation
Bump I'm having trouble finding mounts for this thing that I know for sure will fit. I hate to order ones not knowing if they will fit and I'm not sure what you got from Traditions.
Also, anything really bad about using see-thru rings? I've never had them but kind of want to try a set out. I've read people say that by placing the scope higher up that from the recoil it will sometimes put more pressure on the gun than meant to be and crack the welds on the gun. This sounds like something made up to me but I could be wrong. Do they actually do this? The only other time I hear of people complaining they just basically want to complain about them and say you hardly ever use your open sights anyway. Since I need ones to mount the scope up high on this gun I'm thinking maybe this is the perfect chance to try the see-thru ones. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
The one problem I have with see throught rings.. I never use the sights. I get a scope that handles all my shooting conditions, and mount it as close to the barrel as possible. That is one reason I like a 2-7x32mm. If I am stalking around, I use a 2x where if I am on a stand I then set it to 7x.
I ordered the high mounts from Traditions because of the cam action.. I am sure there are other brands out there that would fit the rifle as well. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
I don't really know why I want see-thru rings I just kind of want to try them. I figure also if I'm away hunting and something ever happens to the scope I can just switch to the open sights.
I'm planning to put a Leupold VX-I 3x9x40mm scope I have on there and it's not the best scope I've ever had so having the open sights as backup would ease my mine. As for the bases I see you said that but when I looked I didn't find the ones that fit the Yukon. I think that's the model you said that the parts interchange with. |
RE: Gave In To Temptation
T/C makes a set of mounts/rings that fit. They are called gorilla grip or something like that. Got mine at WallMart for like $20. The make regular and see-thru mounts. You couldn't give me a set of see-thru mounts, but that's me. The regular mounts put the scope at the right height for me.

RE: Gave In To Temptation
I suppose they have some practical application, i.e., you can use the irons if there's something wrong with your scope. I just don't like the looks of them, they raise the scope to a height that usually doesn't feel rightto me, and they are never as solid a system as normal mounts. Maybe the difference in accuracy is negligible for most hunting shots, but I just don't like them.
