Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
My buddy bought one. It states that the gun is only recommended a max charge of 100 grains (2 pellets)
Is this true? You can't run 150 grains in the genesis? Not a show stopper...just curious. Thanks. |
RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
You can shoot 150. Don't know why you would want to... but you can. Of the 3 Genesis' that I have shot personally they all grouped best between 80 and 110g.

We’ve stretched the limits of muzzleloader performance. With a full 28" of powder-burning steel, the Genesis™ generates maximum velocity from magnum 150-grain charges Only BPI/CVA limits powder charges to 100 grain loose, anyway that si the only company I know of... Check page15 in the owners manual for suggested and recommended loads TRIPLE SEVEN® FFG is recommended for use in this muzzleloading rifle.WARNING! ONLY 2F OR FFG Black Powder, PYRODEX® RS, or TRIPLE SEVEN® FFG should be used in this rifle. This muzzleloading rifle is designated for use with a maximum powder charge of 150 grains of FFG Black Powder, Pyrodex® RS loose powder or 130 grains Triple Seven® FFG loose powder. Hope this helps... RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
Exactly - mine and another forum member's both shoot 100 gr of Pyrodex P under a 300 gr Hornady XTP with CR sabot.

Thanks!

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
From what's I've read, almost all of the Genesis owners are getting the best performance from 100g loads.

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
I am going to push my Genesis and see what happens with something like a Nosler and 150 grains of pellets this spring. It should be interesting.

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
I'm also planning to try increased loads, 110, 120 and 130 gr Pyrodex RS under the FPBs. If accuracy is maintained with 130 gr, I'll have a 150 yd load: 2" high at 50, 2.5" high at 75, zero at 125 and 3.5" low at 150.
Not too shabby for a 350 gr slug. |
RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
That sounds like a heck of a anything load there uncle norby...

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
You're right it does. We'll see if the gun will shoot it some time over the summer. Might even burn through my RS and get some BH 209.

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
Read any of the powder companies web sites and all they recommend is 100 grains max. I hold the powder companies recommendations which are lower than what my gun manual says and I'm fine and they shoot great.

RE: Remington Genesis - Powder Charge Question
I find it strange that on one had they recommend 100 grains from Hodgdons as the max load. Yet they make and sell a Triple Se7en magnum pellet which in reality is a true weight pellet equal to about 120 grains of loose powder if you were shooting Pyrodex or Goex.
As we all know it boils down to who has the better lawyer and who warned who about what. Our society has progressed to a "not my fault" mentality about almost everything. I actually find some of the ideas they push rather funny. "In debt? Well it's not your fault." Hello?? Who used the credit cards then? Over weight? It's not your fault" So its all right to eat a bag of snickers bars every day?? Same with the powder companies. 100 grains is the max we recommend. We sell more then that but if you're dumb enough to blow yourself up, we can always say, we recommended 100 grains. Liability.. is the name of the game these days. Who's to blame? Well it's not my fault. :D |
